Quite a fun game, you just need a really good video card.
This is only for me, but I thought that the whole WWII concept of the first Battlefield was really compelling. I don't seem to find BF2 AS addictive; but that's just my opinion. It is still a REALLY sweet game.

LOL That and my first Visa. I was rewarded 11,400 from my gov't student loan, and I have an extra $1700 which is student AID. I'm taking tech so I see this gaming machine I'm building as a tool.
GeForce 6600 GT PCI-E and all

If you're building at new rig, why not just get the 7800GT since you seem to have all of this cash lying around? Or at *least* the 6800... they'll last you a while into the future.
Regardless, lots of my friends have the game and say it's very sweet and very addictive, though I'm pretty sure there isn't a machine out there that can run the game at full detail settings with a perfect FPS rate without having all top of the line parts and components.

The only thing I miss from 1942 is being able to steer ships/subs etc. Only americans get a carrier on maps and it doesnt move. Naval battles were half the fun

I don't have the cash lying around, I have a budget. the 6600 fits into that budget and has gotten great ratings.

The game's ranking system is too fricking impossible.
It's somewhat like an RPG where it keeps your stats. It awards you medals and things for your skill or specific things you do, but really what it does it increase your rank. The player with the highest rank who applies to be commander of the army will always be the commander.
The problem is that people mainly play ranks to unlock the special weapons. It's not so bad at first. The first rank of Private First Class is like 500 and that's easy enough to achieve as is the second rank of Lance Corporal...but then it goes exponentially insane. The 3rd rank is Corporal and that's like 10,500 points. I won't reach that for like 3 months of constant playing.
And that's only the 3rd rank out of 12!!!
This is basically MMORPG's stat grinding brought to an FPS!
A 6600 GT PCI-E will be decent on Battlefield but you may still have to play at a lower resolution like 1024x768.

IMO its as fun, and maybe even more fun than BF 1942. I played a lot of 1942... but I've been playing Bf2 for at least an hour or two a day online since I got it. I never played bf1942 that much.
Look for me on any of the ranked servers, I'll be the one shooting you in the face with my 7-cylinder automatic shot-gun.

I find the maps lack variety and are frustrating. They aren't as good as BF1942's maps and scale. 1942 felt like you were truly desperately fighting or defending across a front.
BF2 just feels like soldiers running around to random bases put all over the map and even if you hunker down to defend, you'll get artilleried.
They really need to give points to Spec Ops for taking out Command Assets. That's really lacking. They also need to boost Engineer repair points because very few people ever play engineer (seems that you do though).
