Flames Flames aggressively trying to move up. UPD: Treliving and Kekelainen meeting on floor

Yes it is Garrioch so take with grain of salt.

Quote:
The chatter is only going to increase in the coming days as the teams at the top of the draft listen intently to what those who are trying to move up are willing to offer. One of the most aggressive on that front is Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving, who is currently sitting at No. 6 in the annual crapshoot.

Ideally, the Flames would like to get into the top three or four and the Columbus Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers are listening to all offers because it never hurts to see what other teams are offering. But that’s where this becomes muddy because nobody is sure what Calgary is willing to give up.

The Flames want a shot at one of those top-end forwards like winger Jesse Puljujarvi (Finland) or London winger Matthew Tkachuk. There’s not a chance either of those two players will be there by the time Calgary is scheduled to pick at No. 6 so it doesn’t hurt Treliving to at least make an attempt to move.

That would be very sick.

Interesting, and exciting. I don't doubt this is going on, and if a big move happens I will be very intrigued by the cost.

that would be awesome. Depends on acquisition cost though ... last year, Toronto wanted three 2nds (34, 38 and 58) from Columbus to trade up from 8 to 4.

I'd happily hand over 6, 35, 54, 56 to get Puljujarvi.

Doesn't he say something like this every year about the Flames?

I would too. I think the Flames are now past the point of needing quantity and have to go for quality. I know at the end of the day the Flames will likely still be picking 6th, but I would love to nab the third pick.

I would too. It seems like a lot but it's essentially 3 lottery tickets for a guy that checks off a lot of organizational needs.

The only reason not to shell out all 3 2nds is getting a goalie, which has to be more of a priority than 18 year old winger.

Garrioch has actually been right about a couple Flames related things in the recent past... I am now giving his stuff more credence than I previously would have.

I would argue that the drop from 4 to 8 last year was at least as big as the drop from 3 to 6 this year.

Having to give up all 3 2nds would be painful. So its probably a fair trade.

They want out of the Hartnell contract (and we could use his grit). How about something like:

#3 + Hartnell for #6 + Colborne + 2nd

Reimer and Puljujarvi > most of the other goalies and no Puljujarvi

That would make sense but only if it happens now.

Exactly. Many people stated they would be happy with Nylander and Fleury.

I would much rather have Puljujarvi and Reimer.

It sure will be interesting to me watching to see who has the better career between Puljujarvi and Nylander/Brown/Jost/Keller

That is too much. I would maybe offer 6, 35, 56, but would much prefer something along the lines of Enoch Root's proposal.

given what Toronto wanted from Columbus last year, I think it's pretty realistic. And I think I'd do it ... Puljujarvi is just in another tier than Nylander.

to put names to it: we had our CPHL draft today, and the picks at 6, 35, 54 and 56 were Alexander Nylander, Dennis Cholowski, Jack Kopacka and Filip Gustavsson. Would you rather have Puljujarvi or Nylander, Cholowski, Kopacka and Gustavsson? To me it's an easy choice.
