With all this talk on HD games/Tv's i thought I would ask you guys what is a good cable to improve both my standard and high defintion recievers on star choice. many people have told me to get monster s video cables, has anyone ever used those and are they worth it?

You should be using component or DVI/HDMI for your hd receiver to tv. No reason to get the most expensive cables, probably shouldn't get the cheapest either though. For short runs, a cheap s-video should be good. Long runs or runs through switches sometimes need better cables. Monster are a rip off though, there are good cables that are a lot cheaper. You can usually tell when cables are messing up your picture. You'll get things like verticle lines running through the screen, or a missing primary colour, etc.

If you are unsatisfied with your hd picture, calibration will help a lot more than improving your cables.

Depending on your model, some AV equipment will actually respond better via component than with DVI/HDMI. I've got an LG 1080i upconverting DVD player that if you read the reviews, actually gives a better picture via component than DVI.

YMMV. Take advantage of return policies and try to find something that actually makes a difference to you.

I use Phillips 24k gold component ($37 from Zellers) and they look great on DVD, no need to blow $200+ on Monster's name.

No, everything Monster is overpriced and uncessary. The quality isn't even as high as advertised. Most of it comes from the same factory as much cheaper components but just rebranded.

I'm happy with my beefy gold surpus cables from Princess Auto.
