Default 40 Year Old Gymnast Qualifies for Rio

http://www.bbc.com/sport/gymnastics/36084754

Quote:
Uzbekistan's Oksana Chusovitina is on course to become the first female gymnast to compete at seven Olympic Games after qualifying for Rio 2016.

The 40-year-old sealed her spot at Sunday's final qualifying event at the Rio Olympic venue.

Chusovitina has previously competed internationally for the Soviet Union, Unified Team, Uzbekistan and Germany before switching back to Uzbekistan.

She has won two Olympic and 11 World Championship medals during her career.

She helped the Unified Team win team gold at her first Olympics at Barcelona 1992 and won vault silver for Germany at Beijing 2008.
It appears that Uzbekistan is not the strongest nation in gymnastics, but good on her. Pretty amazing accomplishment for a 40 yr old in a sport that is usually dominated by teenagers.

Maybe he's actually 17 and just didn't know it. I've heard of that happening.

Just to clarify: I don't think it matters how strong the Uzbekistan gymnastics team is, she still needs to qualify in Olympic trials against other nations. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but that's how the Tae Kwon Do olympic trials work(ed).

Makes it even more impressive.

It's usually the other way around like "12 year old little league sensation is destroying the competition and ends up being David Ortiz with a fresh shave."

Not that I really know- but if that is the case; how did the Jamaican Bobsled Team qualify?

They put those rules in place after Calgary. I think Jamaica and Eddy the Eagle were part of the reason for the change.
