I was pretty close to the epicentre in January. Most of the buildings in that region are brick and mortar construction so the damage would be extensive.

The Oregon to BC stretch of that plate really has been quite lucky in regards to earthquakes.

Well, he's OK, sounds like it's pretty chaotic down there right now.

I was in Ecuador a couple years ago, and unfortunately the infrastructure and urban fabric in a place like Guayaquil is questionable at the best of times. It's not a country that can really afford these types of tragedies, so it's sad to see something like this.

The Island has had two medium ones in less than 6 months I think. There's some real paranoia this week with the amount of quakes in such a small amount of time. If that Yellowstone thing is true it's really going to toss the West coasters into an uninformed tizzy.

Two massive quakes over +M7 in quick succession in the Pacific Ring in Kyushu, Japan and NW Ecuador. Kind of reminds me of 2011 with Christchurch, New Zealand and Tohoku, Japan.

There's a link in this thread saying the river around the volcano has boiled and become sulphuric. Kind of like the movie Dante's peak. Might just be click vait though. Hence why I said if it is true.

Yeah, the Supervolcano at Yellowstone will be a world changing event and hundreds of thousands of people will die because of it. The river starting to boil or any significant swell would probably be Emergency Broadcast worthy in the affected area's (Calgary being right on the line) and definitely a breaking news story across the world.
