Senators fire Cameron and coaching staff
http://senators.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=878443
Quote:
Ottawa Senators (@Senators) general manager Pierre Dorion announced today that the club has dismissed head coach Dave Cameron and assistant coaches Andre Tourigny and Rick Wamsley. Assistant coach Jason Smith has been relieved of his coaching duties and has been offered another position within the organization.
Cameron, 57, became the 11th head coach in franchise history when he was promoted to the position on Dec. 8, 2014. Prior to his appointment as head coach, he spent the previous three-plus seasons as an assistant coach with the Senators, after initially being hired by the club on June 23, 2011. Cameron has a career National Hockey League head coaching record of 70-50-17 (.537, 137 games).
Tourigny, 41, joined the Senators coaching staff on July 1, 2015. He spent the two previous campaigns as an assistant coach with the Colorado Avalanche. Prior to joining the Avalanche, he served as the head coach and general manager of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
Wamsley, 56, was hired by the club on July 28, 2010. A former NHL goaltender who played 407 games with the Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens, he worked previously with the Columbus Blue Jackets, St. Louis and Toronto.
Pierre Dorion will be available to the media at 12:30 p.m. today in the Senators Media Centre at Canadian Tire Centre.

Not surprising based on Melnyk's comments last week.

Not shocked by this at all, but he had a relatively poor team to work with. Coaches are hired to be fired I guess.

No surprise. If Cameron can't better control his tirades he's never going to be anything more than a short term head coach as players don't have to put up with that crap. His meltdowns were pretty embarrassing.

After the owners comments, the change of GM and coach were always likely. Who comes in now? Carlyle?

Based on social media speculation so far, it sounds like Julien is a front runner if Boston lets him go.

Would make sense. Probably wise to sit back and wait for candidates to become available, no need to rush the decision. Plenty of more important decisions like the draft, UFAs, RFAs to re-sign etc.

Sens sure whip through coaches like its going out of style. Can't imagine its a job that top candidates would choose if they have options.

No surprise there. If Julien hits the market his phone will be busy.

I wonder how much Karlsson's point totals will fluctuate with a different coach/style.

I still don't get where Ottawa is going. Seems like a jig-saw puzzle of pieces they're trying to make work.
May have a few coaches turn over there before they 'figure it out'.

29th on penalty kill, 26th in power play (with Karlsson out there usually all two minutes!), 30th in shots allowed per game (and in shot differential) - hardly suprising the entire staff was let go. Post-season 'exit' interviews suggest players were frustrated constantly having to play from behind so the 'system' got abandoned.
Fresh start next year with new coaches. Some players seem to have motivation issues - do the Sens hire a hard-arse coach to whip them into motivation? E.g. Bobby Ryan, Zibanejad.

What's weird about Cameron is when he coached in junior his team's played this mega conservative, boring defensive system. In the pro's he was completely different. Makes me wonder if its a management directive to play that way or if he was just adjusting to fit personnel (he was the GM for the junior team as well).

What should the 30th place PK and 28th place PP staff do?

Good question - I don't remember if they were any better under Maclean.
Is the "special teams" coach responsible when the team can't kill penalties or produce on the PP?
Sens did lead the league in SH goals, though...
