Penguins lose Fleury to concussion, out indefinitely
That's not good close to the playoffs.
Pittsburgh Penguins

Marc-Andre Fleury did not join the team on the trip to New York and is out with a concussion.

This is new. Disappearing before the playoffs instead of during.

Hypothetically speaking, if Matt Murray were to light it up, would we be interested in acquiring Fleury? He's got 3 years remaining @ $5.75M.

Hypothetically yes, but I don't see Fleury moving until the trade deadline in that scenario and the Flames need a goalie for the start of training camp.

If Murray lights it up then Fleury is moved at the draft. Pitt would want the salary flexibility it provides to bolster their forward ranks.

MAF would be a great addition to our team.

For what MAF would cost in trade I'd rather just sign Reimer, I don't see Fleury as significantly better than Reimer. Not a huge fan of Fleury, he lets in a weak one literally every time I watch him

We should not be signing a goalie long term after this season. We should be trying to get a stop gap goaltender. Next season with the equipment changes and expansion draft goalies will literally be free and you wills till need to evaluate them with the new equipment. I would say absolutely no to Flery or any goaltender with term.

They should have traded for Hiller when they had the chance.

Then you simply don't watch him enough. He's a bonafide NHL starter. Has been for years. Talk about his playoff record if you must, but he's done the job year over year for the Penguins. Reimer? Not so much.
I mean, yeah, the cost in a trade might be a decent player or two, but if Treliving has the opportunity to go and get him and he doesn't have to give up any of our top 10 prospects, you do it every time.
Simply put, we have to find a good NHL starting goalie. Haven't had one in 3+ years now, and the same old story is getting pretty old.

He's definitely a starter, wasn't arguing that. But PIT isn't going to give that former 1st overall pick away. They will demand quite the ransom for him I would imagine. And then if we have to protect Gillies or Fleury next expansion draft we get screwed either having to expose the guy we traded for or one of our top prospects.
I just think the drop off from Fleury to Reimer isn't very significant. Acquiring Reimer for free would be ideal and then if you leave him unprotected next expansion draft you aren't losing an asset you paid heavily for. While the expansion draft may mean more goalies become available, if we have to protect Gillies then we would be trading into a problem if we pay heavily for a goalie through trade.
