Oilers brass probably weren't intrigued at other GMs offering 3rd round picks.

"something" was the Oilers inability to accept the value of their players

I believe in the Pony Power

Yeah he's gonna be stuck there because the team will refuse to actually accept the fact the fact he was a 1st overall pick doesn't mean he's still worth that.
"Something went wrong". Yup Nail. Something went wrong indeed. You got drafted by the worst team in professional sports.

Would you take a chance on him for a 2nd? I'm not sure I would be down. Could a team reverse the suck in his game. Then you add the whole go back to play in the KHL option.
Yeah no thanks

If you can pluck Yak from the Oil for a decent price akin to the Shinkaruk for Granlund trade, I'd be okay with that.

Yes, I would trade a 2nd for him, especially since we have 3 of them. But a 2nd is the most I would pay.
I think with a fresh start, he could be a decent player.
And lord knows, we could use another young RW or 2
Plus, it's worth it just for the chance of turning him into a player and rubbing it in Edmonton's face for a decade

Well you don't keep a tire fire going this long unless you keep tossing more tires on it. Rather than cut bait and get something the Oilers need to burn another tire.

The Flames got a 2nd for Sven, and Yak is better than Sven. However, the Canucks overpaid. I think a 2nd is probably around the right price.

Google translate doesn't do a very good job of translating it, so maybe one of the Russian literate posters would care to post a better translation

BEFORE the deadline
I was on a suitcase
- Your quote: "Exchange waited until the last."
- And there is.
- And when they came to such a point that any thought of having the trade, and whether there were reasonable grounds to think that the exchange take place?
- Were. And as far as I know, everything has come very close. I've been out of a suitcase. Moreover, we with Igor Larionov given permission to talk to other teams. A number of clubs were interested. But at the last moment something went wrong. And I'm - here.
- Write that you want to "Montreal", "Winnipeg", "New Jersey" and "Carolina". What was the closest and one of them would you prefer?
- This is not an exhaustive list - it is possible even two or three of the club call. But to say where I could and would like to be, it can be any number. The fact that this did not happen, and I'm still in the "Edmonton". Now the season is over, and then pass the playoffs - and the summer will be seen. There will be a lot more time to negotiate, no one no one else will press time - and make the exchange, I think it will be much easier. But ultimately everything depends on the "Oilers".
- And you were asked to exchange?
- Yes, please. But personally - my job to go out and play hockey - and through an agent, which is engaged in the discussion and decision on such issues. But just talking about the exchange were, therefore, it had reason to it.
- As Larionov advised to behave in this situation?
- Play. Hockey live normal lives. Everyone must do their job. I tried, trained, worked and tried to enjoy hockey. Discuss exchange - none of my business, and I did not have to dwell on it.
- Do not you think about going back to the KHL?
- No and no again.

Why on earth would Yzerman do that? Drouin has more value then a reclamation project Yak.
There's no guarantee Yak would be on one of the top 3 lines in Tampa, with the forward depth they have. Drouin can't even crack the line up because of the depth. Add in the salary difference and the coming cap crunch Tampa is in, I can't see it.

I'd give up the Dallas pick for Nail. He's got good energy and a good shot. He's just dumb in terms of vision and IQ. Honestly, all he has to do is get open while JG and Monahan set him up. Or he goes into the corners and fetches the puck.

Is he though?
Baertschi has 14G 13A for 27PTS in 66GP which is a 33 point pace
Yakupov has 6G 13A for 19PTS in 56GP which is a 28 point pace
Yakupov is a disaster. I would trade a mid-round pick for him but not much else. All he really has left at this point is his name.

Having poor hockey sense in today's game is more debilitating than being a poor skater. Yakupov is a lost cause.

If Cooper had issues with Drouin's defence, he would be apoplectic over Yak.
