Default Sean Monahan now leads the 2013 Draft Class

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2013e.html

Not only that but has 80 goals in his career. If someone can confirm, but I believe he is second in goal scoring since the 2011 draft.

With added pieces of Shinkaruk, Poirier & Klimchuk, in the same draft year, it could well be the cornerstone draft for this franchise in a couple years.

This is my take
1. Barkov
2. Mackinnon
3. Monahan
4. Jones
5. Ristolainen?
6. Domi?

You were correct, he does lead the 2013 draft class with 155 points. That page has yet to be updated.

Yeah I mentioned that in the Game thread.. HockeyDB is not updated with tonights games.. so add 3 points for Monty.

Pretty impressive. Got very fortunate with Monahan and Bennett. Crossing my fingers this draft goes in our favor yet again.

Man hes good. Been great down the stretch. If he and johnny can find some chemistry with *insert RWer* next season, I can see him pushing for 35g 70p.

The thing I've noticed too with his recent play, is not only is he scoring, but hes been getting involved physically. I was really hard on him early in the season for not using his body and avoiding checks, but hes been much better and its showing on the scoresheet as well.

Still can't believe we scored a #1 Centre at that draft position.

Gotta be some good karma for not being a disgrace like Edmonton.

I don't get ranking Barkov ahead of Monahan. Even though it's probably splitting hairs to choose between them.

Awesome news. More proof you don't need to win the draft lottery to build a team.

Also, who made the worst pick in 2013, the Lightning or the Oilers?

155 puts him one up on Galchenyuk too, so he has more points than anyone drafted in 2012 too.

Only Landeskog has more goals than Monahan for all players drafted since 2011.

IMO Barkov went from being under-rated to slightly over-rated by some.

I've seen a lot of him this year and he looks like the real deal. But I think with Monahan's scoring / finishing, it's splitting hairs picking between them at this point.

Elite two-way centre in the mold of Datsyuk, Bergeron or Toews. I was concerned primarily that he wouldn't produce enough at the NHL level but he's showing he can. That makes him one of the most rare commodities in the NHL.

Durability would be the only concern at this point.

He's not a flashy player that scores highlight reel goals. A good strong 2 way player that in time will develop into another Toews.

I'd take Ristolainen over Jones, guy is going to be a stud. Jones is a bit overrated IMO. I think Barkov / Mackinnon / Monahan are pretty close, they are probably interchangeable in the top 3 depending on preference.

I can't believe the Flames drafted a #1 C from a player considered the "safe pick" that many thought was easily bound for top 6-9 potential but would have to hit his absolute ceiling to become a 65 point #1 C.

Luck or Flames development talent, I've enjoyed the Monahan pick immensely. It's been shattering every expectation I've had.
