Per Gilbertson
#Flames GM Brad Treliving named Canada's co-GM for world championships. Will split duties with George McPhee.

They just want to see if he can trade some draft picks for another teams top young defender.

Great choice.

There'll be a lot of Flames on Canada.

I hope not. Usually I like when the younger players go but with the World Cup around the corner I'd prefer the Flames content is kept to a minimum. Bennett would be a nice addition if healthy.

Cool. I see this as both a hat-tip to Treliving's record so far as well as a sign that we're part of the "in-crowd", which certainly has not always been the case for Flames fans.

Monahan is on team N.A. already. Bennet would also have to be on team N.A. that goes the same for Hamilton.

So really the only choices would be Gio and Brodie.

I think you're thinking of the wrong tournament. I believe this is the end of year world championships.

You're confused. It took me a second too. That is why the World Cup needs to be named something different. Like the NHL Cup or something less lame than what I can come up with.

Brodie and Gio should go if they want any shot at the world cup team

I wouldn't mind if no Flames go to this, or the World Cup. Just extra hockey tacked on to an already long and grueling season.

Could be a few guys who go for that same reason. Subban, Giroux, Duchene, Hall... Might be a pretty good team.

Not a fan of when it takes place. Right before pre season exposing the players wvwn further to injuries.

The last thing the Flames need is another to lose 1 or even 2 key players and get off to another terrible slow start.

Wrong tournament. This is the World Championships that happen every year, not the World Cup.

I bet Gio doesn't go. Brodie and Hamilton probably do. Monahan and Bennett might sit it out if they're nursing any injuries still (that's one good thing about Treliving being the guy in charge of the invites, he'll know who shouldn't be going).

Johnny will probably go for the States. Backlund maybe for Sweden. Frolik, Nak, and Kevin for the Czechs and Finns, maybe ... I don't really know what those teams have, and they tend to give spots to the guys who play in Europe.

Hopefully Treliving loads the roster up with like 6 goalies so we can get some healthy competition going!

Treliving should take Chychrun and Dubois to test drive them
