Unless his demands are outrageous, I don't see why the Flames wouldn't be trying to re-sign him before he goes UFA. He has definitely been a bright spot since his call-up.

I hope they bring him back next season, he's definitely NHL ready and he seems like a very decent depth option. Will be interesting to see whether they can find a spot for him though, given that Gio, Brodie, Dougie, Kevin, Engelland and Wideman are all signed for next year ... plus Smid, if he can get healthy. I hope BT can work his magic this summer and get rid of Wideman or Engelland, but I'm not holding my breath ...

Kevin?
EDIT: Ahh, catching up now. Jyrki Jokipakka.
I can get on board with Kevin in this case.

He has been very solid. Also, Hartley was commenting on his attitude: wants to learn, easy to coach.
I can't imagine they don't get him inked.

After seeing how excited he was scoring his first goal and how happy he was to get some playing time you really get the feel an older guy getting his first shot will be really driven to succeed. He has the attitude and a decent skill level and I would consider him as a perfect third pairing guy

I've noticed him scrum it up after whistles and stick up for teammates. He's a large frame who seems to provide solid bottom pairing minutes. I'd be happy to resign him.

Can they send Wideman down? Maybe he'd be claimed off of waivers? Cause unless Wideman has a huge return to form: Nak>>>>>>>>>>>Wideman

A pleasant surprise. Glad he's getting some real time on the ice.

BT has to re-sign this guy.
He has been everything and more that we could have hopes for.
Rarely caught out of position, speed to get Beck if he does. Wins most battles for loose pucks in his own end. Has a great shot and good IQ for the offensive part of the game.
3 years $6M, aav of $2m would be a great deal for both sides.

Good all around defender with both physicality and some offensive ability. Great 3rd pairing guy. Sign him.

IMO, that's too much money AND too much term, based on a couple of dozen games.
One or two years, about a $1M per is plenty.

The guy is 27 years old. ELC type money is not going to get it done. Especially if he earns top 4 minutes.
And term is about right to give him an opportunity to earn a major payday.

Wideman has a NMC - cannot be demoted. Can go on waivers and be bought out, otherwise he is on the roster until traded/contract expires. Hence why the likely action is trade him after he rehabs his value

Someone else will sign him if we don't. Give him just under 2 a year for 2 years and lets see what he does.
That way if this is just a blip we can send him down and it doesn't even hurt.

I can't believe the Flames have been suppressing this little gem in the AHL for so long.

It bugs me that this guy has been in our system all year and just now is he getting a chance in the NHL.
He didn't get a single minute of game action when called up earlier this year. Hartley decided he'd rather ice Smid, Wideman and Engelland rather than give Nakladal a chance. Hartley proving once again the undeserved loyalty he has for his established veteran players. What a bum.

I agree. I'd be super bummed if he left in free agency.

By no means am I saying he is bad but lets assess at the end of the year.
