They are singing the Canadian national anthem in a BUF-CAR game. Color me surprised. Do they do this regularly in BUF or is it some special occasion?

Believe they do it before every game. They get a lot of fans from Niagara Falls/St.Catherines area.

Edit: yep they do - https://twitter.com/BuffaloSabres/st...30186191167488

Good. We need Buffalo to win a few games and to take their losses to OT.

Final scores

Pastrnak scored a pair of goals, both of them coming late in the second and third periods. The Bruins are on the rise and now go on a three game California road trip.

It definitely is a great day for hockey with a pair of nationally televised matinees.

The Rangers continue to lead 1-0 at the start of the third period. Stepan scored the game's only goal with 49 seconds left in the first period.

Wow that Eichel goal was a nice one. Great lob pass/dump out by Kane to send Eichel in on the breakaway and he slips it 5 hole on the backhand.

Interesting that Sam Reinhart seems to be used a RWer. I know it was speculated by a few scouts in his draft year that he could make as good a RWer as a centre. Kane-Eichel-Reinhart is quite the hard line to contain. They have too many top 3 centres with Eichel, O'Reilly, Girgensons, Reinhart so it makes to bump Reinhart out to the wing.

If we did get lucky and land Matthews then I think Bennett would be fine on LW just like Reinhart is on RW right now.

I think Bennett needs to be a center. His personality and drive will see him be a team captain some day. When I watch him play, I think he wants to be the guy in the middle of the ice. We should give him that opportunity.

I agree, I think he's really suited for centre. But if luck hands you a potentially franchise or even generational centre (Matthews) you're obviously going to take him. And in that scenario you may start Matthews on the 3rd line but you're not going to keep Bennett, Monahan or Matthews as your 3rd line centre IMO, you'd have to move one of them to the wing and I think Bennett's feistiness and board play have him as the best winger of those 3. Anyways it was just a theoretical discussion about an improbable scenario.

In the grand scheme of things it's fairly likely we won't pick 1st. Given that four of my top six players for this draft are wingers, it seems like there's a good chance we'll be adding an elite winger talent this year. Makes a lot of sense as I think we're in fantastic shape with Bennett, Monahan and Backlund as our top 3 centres going forward (with Jankowski still in reserve). We're in reasonable shape on the blue line without adding a top talent but would be set if we did draft or trade for another top 3 defenseman. Given the lack of surefire wingers in the system it really makes a ton of sense for us to draft one this year. It may even be priority enough that they would deal up to try and get one of their favourite ones.

That BUF OT win was pretty clutch. They are much better than they were in the first half the year I think. Lehner coming back helped but the team is maturing and looking like they may take more of a step forward next year. If O'Reilly gets back soon we may not be able to catch them. BUF pulls 4 points clear of us but we've got 2 games in hand so it's still quite close. BUF is 4-4-2 in their last 10 while the Flames are 2-6-2. Their offence is a bit deeper than ours at the moment. When I've watched them a lot is now flowing through Eichel, especially on the power play. They've got a great young core. I think CGY, BUF and FLA have three of the best young cores in the NHL. Much better balanced than EDM's.

Agreed. You can't have any of Bennett, Monahan or Matthews as your 3rd line center long term.
