1st Line Right Winger
Now that the trade deadline has past, I thought it would be an interesting discussion to see who people thought would be playing 1st line RW next year. I dont see it being filled from within the organization but maybe I am wrong.
Is there a UFA that you think could do the job?

In terms of UFAs the best one that could be available and probably best suits the Flames is Okposo. Now whether they can get him on a contract that makes sense is a big question.

Well, there's that David Jones, he's a UFA...
In all seriousness, I want us to sign Okposo.

Here's a list of upcoming forward UFAs that may be able to fit in the top line RW spot
Elias, Patrik NJ LW UFA 5,500,000
Stamkos, Steven TB C UFA 5,500,000
Grabner, Michael TOR RW UFA 5,000,000
Vrbata, Radim VAN RW UFA 5,000,000
Backes, David STL C UFA 4,750,000
Doan, Shane PHO RW UFA 4,550,000
Eriksson, Loui BOS LW UFA 4,500,000
Okposo, Kyle NYI RW UFA 4,500,000
Perron, David ANA LW UFA 4,500,000
Purcell, Ted FLA C UFA 4,500,000
Ruutu, Tuomo NJ C UFA 4,050,000
Hudler, Jiri FLA C UFA 4,000,000
Jones, David MIN RW UFA 4,000,000
Boedker, Mikkel COL LW UFA 3,750,000
Brouwer, Troy STL RW UFA 3,750,000
Lucic, Milan LA LW UFA 3,750,000
Jagr, Jaromir FLA RW UFA 3,500,00
Personally, I think Eriksson and Okposo may have the most top line potential and they are probably the best long-term options.

It's all going to come down to the new contracts for our top players, and if we can dump some big contracts in the off season. I like okposo or Lucic!

I thought Lucic made $6M/year?
Can we fit a $5M Okposo in our line up? I'm going to guess no.

I really hope we stay away from Lucic. At his best, he's exactly what we need, I'm just worried he's not going to be able to hit that best very soon and for a long time.
A long term high dollar contract for him would be a scary thing.

He wasn't overly impressive in the back to back Alberta games they played this weekend. I would be hesitant about handing him anything more than what they gave Hudler.

We will get outbid on Lucic but I'm sure our brass has interest. Backes and Okposo are good fits but I'm a little worried that we will give Backes too much $ and or term
I see Lucic either staying in LA or going to Vancouver

Jagr. One year deal, see if next year's free agents will be better for RW. Make it so, Treliving.

If Okposo was only going to cost $5M, then for sure I think Treliving can fit him in. But I'm guessing he's going to cost more than that, so who knows.

How would Frolik adapt to being our 1st line RW? Our Swiss army knife probably does not have enough offensive skill or firepower to fit that need.
Of the UFAs, Eriksson or Okposo at right wing suits our needs. We desperately need RW depth and skill.

Drafting Patrick Laine (RW) or Jesse Puljujarvi (RW) may be the easiest way to fill the hole for many years. Even if we end up 4th-6th range I think Treliving has the ammunition to be able to try and aggressively trade up to get one of them. And no matter where we'll finish we'll have some chance of winning one of those 3 lotteries.
As for UFAs I have varying degrees of interest in Stamkos, Backes, Eriksson, Okposo, Boedker, McGinn, Brouwer, Lucic, Perron, Jagr. I doubt Doan is going anywhere. Treliving may need to deal with some salary (Wideman, Raymond) in order to take a big run at any of those guys.
IMO ask this question again after the draft lottery and we may have a better idea of the answer

Frolik isn't a good fit with Gaudreau IMO

They just finished dumping UFAs. I guess if they could get a younger one like Okposo it would be OK but he will command a premium for exactly that reason. It's too early in the rebuild to spend $$$ on UFA

If we draft Matthews or one of the Finns, I really hope we avoid overpaying in free agency.

I would love to see David Perron but I am guessing Edmonton has soured him on Alberta.
