3M isn't a spray on coating, its a protective film applied to protect against rock chips.

If you do not like the look of a sandblasted front end I would get the bumper done aswell.

Better to get it all done vs regretting it later.
My entire vehicle is 3M

I got the xpel paint protection on my truck from ignition digitial graphics here in town. I'm pretty happy with it. I drive down gravel roads quite a bit, and the film has held up perfectly. If you choose to go that route, Tevy is a great guy.

both of my vehicles are 3m's (the film) and it has certainly kept the front ends from getting that dinged up and I live at the south end of deerfoot.
i'd recommend getting her done......

never get it at a dealer. they gouge you so badly, unless you negotiate it in your rates, or negotiate a rate that comparable to a 3rd party.
Another plug for my cousin's shop, but go to Contemporary Coachworks. They're certified to put 3M on, and will do it cheaper than a dealer will.

Yes get it. If you have strollers, or bikes, or move stuff get the rear bumper done too.
I can also give you a name of a guy who is a local artist and does it too. He was half of Audi price and does almost twice as much coverage. Fully certified through 3M. Both out cars he has done and never had a problem.
So two things, get 3M and get a quote from my guy. It's a must I think.

Da Vincis Workbench ask for Regan 403-613-9546. He is a licenced 3M installer who is super picky and does great work on everything from domestics to exotics.

Negatives about 3M:
I think all these coatings turn a different color over time. Be careful at the carwash with the pressure wash.
A lot of this money can be used for a bumper and hood repaint and make the car look brand new 5 years out.
Also, it will not really effect your resale value. Avoiding heavily rocked areas after a snowfall, luck and a bunch of others things contribute to a less dinged vehicle.
This process may make more sense for a daily long commute on the Deerfoot, but for my circumstances I would never have this stuff applied to another car I buy.

Definitely do it while it's new man, no contest. Once the damage is done you will scramble to fix your oversight and have a permanent reminder of it.
Definitely not for rust, but rather rock chips, as has been pointed out.
On another note, has anyone ever had a bad experience with electronic anti rust modules? Or a failure ? I opted for it with my VW Jetta TDI and wondered if they are as effective as the salesmen claim.

That is my guy too. Regan is awesome. Takes so much pride in his work, and puts in tons of extras. Wheel wells, and the top of the rear bumper, which because of strollers and bikes has already taken a beating in only 6 months.

Getting your hood and bumper repainted is more money than 3M and it would look like crap. People would assume the car has been hit if the paint is newer looking on two panels. Terrible advice considering the 3M can be removed if it yellows slightly or is damaged.

So do you actually notice the 3M coating at all?
I've been thinking about it for my new car, which is black, so I don't think the whole yellowing concern would be an issue for me, but doesn't it change the appearance of the car in any other way?

Dealers also use the lower end 3M ventureshield product I believe. It's got a lower warranty and tends to orange peel. I got the the Xpel premium for the same price and it doesn't orange peel, it self heals and has a 10 year warranty. 3M now has a pro series is which is similar to the Xpel premium.

To make 3M look good again use meguiars natural shine vinyl and rubber protectant or mothers showtime spray wax.
