Sens sign Scott Gomez for the rest of the season
Because Kyle Turris has been shut down to heal a high ankle sprain.
Brent Wallace @tsn_wally
The Sens have signed Scott Gomez for the rest of the season
Won't be eligible for playoffs if the Sens did manage to get in because he signed after the trade deadline

How does this work after the deadline? Is he allowed to play in the playoffs if they somehow make it?

Somebody needs to revive the "Did Scott Gomez score last night?" website.

I understand the circumstance that Ottawa is in and why they felt the need to get a veteran center, but every time I see that Scott Gomez continues to get an NHL contract, all I can think of is...

Gomez was surprisingly good with the Devils last year, and wasn't awful with St. Louis despite limited ice time.

With Jones fetching a 6th at the deadline, I am sure they could've got a better Centre than Gomez for a late round pick.

Good on Gomez for being able to find yet another contract - who knows, if he does well during this stretch drive leading up to the playoffs, perhaps he parlays it into another contract for next season somehow.
From the Sens' standpoint, I still don't quite understand it. They don't have a better option on the farm? Couldn't get a cheap option through trade this past deadline when some players were going for fairly inexpensive prices? Doesn't provide much hope that Ottawa is really trying to make the playoffs. I mean, no offence to Gomez, but I would think a team that is trying to make the playoffs would at least try to find a guy who can contribute better, even if it is just a defensive or at least a more physical center.

This is obviously a move to get into the playoffs, and then who cares what happens?
I mean if this was the desperation the flames were to stoop to, I wouldn't have anything nice to say.
Had they signed him before the deadline and qualify for playoffs, it still would have appeared desperate, but at least make more sense. Even if he barely got a game in.
Obviously some deal for a center fell through at the deadline, but this sequence of events has me thinking Brian Murray needs to step away for his health ASAP, and get it together.
