Default [FT] Loubardias vs Steinberg

I see lots of posts on this in various threads including trade rumour threads. Best to localize all that talk here rather than sidetrack other threads.

IMO that was fantastic radio. I'm sure Kelly Kirsch had a small chat with each of them telling them to tone it down then following that up with high fives for bringing attention to the station. Boomer is replaying it this morning so the fact it's being promoted means that no matter how you view the incident it's considered radio gold.

My personal feelings is that it's probably a little embarrassing for both but sometimes it's good to see real emotion out of these guys rather than the daily schtik. There's a reason Howard Stern has millions of listeners as real life confrontation beats scripted banter for entertainment.

We all know Lubo is a hot head and gets emotionally attached to players so to me it seems Steinberg kind of egged him on as he wouldn't leave the topic alone. Lubo's arguments for Russell to me don't hold much water because the fact that Hartley overplays him doesn't mean he's good and there are a lot of AHL players with just as much or more heart than Russell but that doesn't mean they should be gifted ice time in the NHL. Regardless I enjoyed it.

Sick of hearing about a guy's character. Bad people can be great hockey players. It's a red herring.

And on the flipside guys like Chris Butler and Anders Eriksson were just stand-up guys I'm sure. Bad NHLers though.

I was uncomfortable listening to it for that long. It started out as Loubo being emotionally invested in a player, but seemed to descend quickly into a hack on Steinberg for anything and "I know you are but what am I" style arguments.

There was actually quite a bit left after the morning show cut it off. Don't buy Steinberg's final comment about it just being friendly argument and they would have no beef with each other after.

Anyway, it seems to me that Loubardias has become increasingly irritable over the years. I don't quite recall him being so negative years ago, but maybe I'm wrong.

Steinberg is more suited to a radio station in a Lloydminster type market.

I thought it was good radio. I listened to it yesterday, and then heard them replay it this morning. I still laughed out loud.

Yesterday I ran out to get my lunch and tried to stay in the car as long as I could, I was waiting to hear Loubo start strangling Steinberg.

It was uncomfortably awesome!

He has been pretty sour since they let him go a few years ago. He has since returned but he's been pretty edgy ever since in my opinion.

Count me in the crew that liked it. Finally some discussion that wasn't two guys meekly arguing the same point for 20 minutes. I wouldn't want it every day, but I have no problem with the way they carried themselves.

Steinberg is the one that wouldn't drop it...geez he just kept bringing it up like he was trying to win the argument or something. I thought both had good points and made for good radio but at one point I was thinking ok Pat just drop it we fkin get it, move on...

Loubardias' arguments were horrible. "Yes Russell is a 2nd pairing dman, that's where he's played."

What kind of argument is that? And then the whole thing about how Russell is a good player etc because Loubardias has watched him since he was 16. You don't need to watch someone for 10 years to know they're good. Loubardias comes off as clueless to me most times. Last night solidified that for me IMO.

Sure it brought attention to the station, good or bad. Doesn't matter. What does matter is that Loubo sounded like an absolute child.

Wanting to argue but not really being able to convey his point without rambling like an emotionally unstable, stubborn kid who resorts to throwing a tantrum when not getting what they want.

I get he was trying to say that Russell brings those intangibles that aren't tracked such as Heart, Soul, and willingness to sacrifice his body.

What he absolutely refused to acknowledge is that numbers don't lie. That's all Pat was trying to say.

Russell is the shot blocking leader but is guilty by always trying to block shots, he often get caught flat footed and a patient forward can walk you when he knows you'll bite on the fake shot. He also lacks the ability to keep bigger forwards to the outside.

Loubo says he would take Russell on his team "anyday".

My question to Loubo is this, Peter, do you take Russell at 5+ mil for 5+ years potentially handcuffing you on re-signing a franchise forward?

Would he spend 5.5m on Russell " anyday" when it appears you may have a gem in Nakladal who maybe able to eat some top 4 minutes at a fraction of the cost?

Or is he willing to sacrifice finding a franchise goalie and being able to lock him up because he has a borderline 4/5 dman that he absolutely had to have on his team.

Give me a break Pete. You sounded like a child throwing a tantrum.
