Default Traveling with oxygen needs

My mother was recently diagnosed with LAM. In a nutshell, it's an extremely rare degenerative lung disease and sadly, she is going to be saddled with an oxygen tank for the rest of her life. She's taking it pretty well all things considered but that part that is the hardest for her is traveling. She is very worried about how to deal with oxygen during flights but more importantly, at her destination.

I see people flying with oxygen from time to time but until now, haven't given it much thought. Traveling within Canada seems fairly straight forward but other countries are going to be more tricky. Looking at Air Canada's website, they appear to be the most accommodating with catering to people with personal oxygen concentration machines or even buying o2 from them.

Basically I'm hoping someone here has some tips/information on traveling with o2 and more importantly, what can be done when arriving at destinations.

My parent's have been passionate travelers for some time now and it's killing me seeing my mom so upset/worried/sad about the potential to not travel anymore. I realize big long trips to something like Australia may be unlikely going forward but hoping Europe is still doable.

If anyone has any experience with this, I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions or information you have.

Thanks in advance.

Each airline will have their own rules and the traveller usually has to state specific health conditions at booking, to see if the airline will then permit travel for that passenger.

Some airlines only permit one or two passengers with oxygen tanks on a flight.

Some airlines will not allow the passenger to bring their own oxygen tanks and instead require the passenger to purchase tanks from them.

Most airlines will also require a doctor's certificate.
