EDM Purcell + DET Jakub Kindl traded to Florida
Travis Yost @travisyost:
Teddy Purcell to FLA for I believe a third round pick.
@FriedgeHNIC:
There are also rumblings, but no confirmation, that FLA is in on Jakub Kindl
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC:
Kindl to FLA. Return is a late-round pick and DET will keep some salary.

Wait, Kindl was with the Oilers?
Anyway, meh.

Seems unlikely as he's Red Wings property. Must be a separate deal if true.

Purcell traded to Florida...
The trade ends Schultz's four-year run with the Oilers. Edmonton nabbed Schultz, a coveted prospect at the time, ahead of the 2012-13 season out of the University of Wisconsin after Schultz failed to sign with the Anaheim Ducks, who drafted him in 2008.

Ugh...I don't really like either player, but Tallon is intent on getting veteran depth to make a run this year. Kindl is insurance and Purcell won't play higher than the 3rd line.
Honestly, I'd rather we stick with guys like Howden and Kampfer. They've been pretty good this year.

Purcell trade has fallen apart?
Reports that the Panthers already have traded their 3rd in the Jagr deal with NJ.

It's all about depth in case of injuries. Imagine your forward lineup before these trades with 3-4 of your guys out due to injuries. Do you still have the depth to ice a winning team?
Now imagine your forward lineup after these trades with 3-4 of your guys due to injuries. Suddenly your chances of winning and your lineup look a lot more solid. You can keep everybody in reasonable slots instead of having guys playing over their heads.

Sounds like they resolved the issue:
George Richards @GeorgeRichards
Hearing trade call going through; #FlaPanthers give up a third to Edmonton for Teddy Purcell. Official announcement soon.

Well yeah I can imagine. They've been without 6 key roster players of late and still managed to win games regularly. The kids they've been calling up have been pretty solid, but I imagine Tallon wants more veteran experience for now and into a playoff run.
I just don't particularly like either of Kindl or Purcell. Especially Purcell.
