Default Tax Returns

Tax season is upon us. How do you get yours done (or not )?

Last year I used free version of H&R Block software and double checked it with Simple Tax.

This year I plan to use Simple Tax and check it with something else if necessary.

Any other recommendations for dyi method?

I use an accountant, with personal and business its necessary. Hard to get a hold of him sometimes, he's been flying around in a helicopter lately, no idea why.

I use intuit turbo tax - have used it for 10 years.

Takes me about 1.5 hrs to do returns for the wife and I.

Our returns are typical

The Windows version of ufile has been great for me. Only $20 for 4 returns. Much cheaper than Turbo Tax as ufile includes rental property support whereas TT does not unless you go to a higher version.

Gotta disagree, Turbotax is $27 and you can do 8 full returns + 12 more low income returns. Every year I share a copy with a friend and do multiple returns with it. You're right on the rental property part though but I'm guessing that doesn't affect most folks.

I used to do the DIY tax returns. Did the H&R Block kiosks too. Then, one year, the wife and I had a complicated return and brought it to Locke. The guy's stand up, super easy to deal with, and I was amazed at his knowledge.
Will never do it myself again or go elsewhere.

"Once you try your return with CP poster Locke, you'll never again use H&R Block"

Believe it or not, that's not trademarked...yet.

I've used simpletax the past 2 years. Free and works well if you have a simple return.

My office is just off of Blackfoot and Manhattan, I'm across from Shaw GMC. Conspicuously close to Holy Smoke BBQ and just off of the Hammock district.
