Pretty late scratches for it just to be injuries and maintenance, no? Usually there's a bit of chatter before guys are scratched for non-trade related issues.

Not really. Jones was hurt in the San Jose game and didn't play in Arizona. Russell missed practice yesterday for maintenance. They both took the pregame skate, likely to see how they felt, and either weren't feeling 100% or Bob thought they were struggling, so he pulled them out.
I wonder how much it being an afternoon game impacted the decision? If it's been a nagging injury for Russell, he might have a routine to get ready for a 7:00 game, but wasn't able to do everything needed in time for the 2:00 start.

There's 3 of 5 players I can see the Flames being without come deadline day. Stajan the most likely to stay unless a team wants a solid vet for 2 more years.
