The interesting thing is that the Flames are only 3 points out in terms of the max points possible. If the Flames are able to win the games in hand, they could make it interesting. Six out of the next seven are against divisional opponents with the other one against Minnesota. They need at least 5 and more likely six of those to catch up enough to make it close.

They also need to win these games in regulation!
At this point, given the Flames' position in the standings, giving up loser points to the other teams that they are fighting for position with is not going to help their cause much.

They have shown spurts of being able to compete, but for long stretches this season they have just rolled over and died.
I'm not optimistic they'll make up the ground, but I sure am hopeful. And I do think it's possible.

Part of the problem is that many of the teams we need to pass will be playing each other which means one of the two teams is guaranteed 2 points and perhaps another gets handed out if it doesn't end in regulation.
It's almost impossible to pass so many teams. They can't all go on losing streaks and we can't win 7 or 8 of 10 the rest of the way with the way we've played this year.

I don't even look at other teams...they will need to be at 90-92 points
18-9-3 probably gets you in, is that likely? not the way they have played thus far but its not like they need to run the table

Calgary has closed to within 1 point in terms of max possible points.
Still a ways to go because they have to translate the games in hand into wins, but it's a hell of a lot closer than anyone would have thought it would be at this point.

I typically do this every season until the Flames are either in or eliminated from a playoff spot.

Sure, the odds are low. But they're not zero.
He takes the time to update the thread for everyone's benefit and you reply with ' seriously'?
