Thumbs up Calgary stuff, are these still a thing?

Hey CP, so it's been about 7 years since I moved down to AZ from growing up in Calgary from birth. I'm taking my SO up this summer to show her where I grew up, ect.

Not gonna lie, it's going to be a food nostalgia tour for me.

Has traffic gotten worse since 2009? Better?
Harveys and Swiss Chalet still there?
Did they ruin Teen Burgers?
Is Westbrook Mall still open?
My Donair still open?
Edo Japan still there?
Is the ole Sex club at Chicken on the way still open? j/k
Is Phoenix Comics still open?
Japanese Village still open?
Peters Drive in still garbage?
Any good Korean BBQ spots?
Best DimSum place?

Where the hell are the hotels? It's funny but it's not something I payed attention to living there? I grew up on "The Hill: Richmond Hill, Signal Hill, Strathcona, Coach Hill" are there any hotels up there?

I might have more questions later...

Thanks!

Traffic is about the same. Maybe more congestion, but you also have more options now with car2go, transit and cycling.

Harvey's, Swiss Chalet, Edo Japan, My Donair, Westbrook Mall are all still around.

Teen Burgers are still the same.

Chicken on the Way... I'm not sure about the basement haha.

Phoenix comics I'm not sure about.

Peter's is still terrible.

For Korean, I guess it depends what experience you're looking for. If you want to have the fancy fusion type Korean with cocktails, check out Anju. If you want something more authentic, I like Insadong in the NE by sunridge for all you can eat or Korean Village in the Beltline for A La Carte.

My favorite for dim sum is Silver Dragon in China Town, but You and Me is surprisingly decent if you're craving the stuff at 2 am.

I'd rather eat there then a high end restaurant that I can go to in Scottsdale or Paradise Valley and have the same, if not better food.

Don't ever change Adam...

So many memories though, that's why she wants to go. She grew up in Stockton CA, Westbrook is a paradise compared that that hole of a town.

The biggest thing you'll notice since leaving Calgary, is they now have things on both the Google, and the Internets.

You're bringing her up to show her Harvey's, Swiss Chalet, A&W, Westbrook Mall, My Donair, and Edo Japan? Can't you just go to a white trash mall's food court and save yourself the airfare and plane ride? Look hunny. Here's where I used to eat fast food. Here's another place I used to eat fast food, and they're all in the same parking lot!

You have to go have 4 or 5 drinks at the Hop in Brew, and then walk across town for some delicious 1 am Dim Sum at U&Me. A fine Friday night.

Also, ask them for the off-menu spicy fish soup.

Traffic is better. Ring Road has taken some of the heat off Deerfoot and I think all the Glenmore work was done after 2009

Yes Harveys and Swiss Chalet is here but ewww.

Teen Burgers still gives me diarrhea

Don’t know about Westbrook Mall

My Donair was open a few years ago, don’t know if it still is.

Edo Japan still gives me diarrhea

Sex club is now in Slivers neatly organized garage

Japanese Village is open but only downtown

Peters is open and they take debit now.

Don’t know about dim sum or any Korean place besides Koryo (fast food Korean)

Hey Bouw N Arrow, maybe you would like squiggs and MMF to help you plan your girlfriend's visit to Calgary. Goodness knows, they have nothing better to do.

This man gets it!!

I mean, I've got to hit these places while to you folks it may sound silly to me a teen burger is basically like gold and no, the places down here are not the same. I'd have a Teen Burger over In-n-out any day of the week.

Obviously we are going to the mountains, hiking and all that jazz too.

It's weird seeing Bouw N Arrow post with some personality and inflection. For years I've only ever seen him make one liner, passive aggressive remarks about the Flames, Calgary or Canada. This is different.

I find it kind of charming that Bouw N Arrow is looking to take his girlfriend on a tour of the mostly crappy places he frequented in his childhood. Pulled off right it could be kind of a nice afternoon.

can you please take her to the scene of the glorious "My name is also Jordan" moment?

Probably my favorite memory of your time on the site.
