Player's Tribune: What Martin Brodeur was Born to Do.
Quote:
Earlier this week, the New Jersey Devils honored one of the most dominant goaltenders in NHL history, Martin Brodeur. The Players’ Tribune followed along behind the scenes as Marty attended a series of festivities leading up to his jersey retirement at the Prudential Center.

I always loved Brodeur. Just dominant for so many years.

If I'm picking a goalie in their prime to win me one game, it's Hasek.
If I'm picking a goalie to play on my team for their whole career, it's Brodeur.

Brodeur, Hasek, and Roy. Grant Fuhr on cocaine too! Best goalies ever. Might of been some Russian guy in the mix too, hated that guy too.Hard to be an allstar goalie for so many years, Brodeur did that for so long.I would not say he was the best, I would put him top five. Yet one could definitely argue. Hasek with his fish out of water style or Roy with a wink to players saying I knew what you were going to do before you did it!The day before I die if someone asks me if I know who Marty Brodeur is I will probably say, " I pooped my pants ". Ask me a few months before I die and I could tell you about some amazing games he had!He is a legend!

Brodeur also looked damned good in a Team Canada jersey. The Gold medal game in Salt Lake City is still to this day my favorite game of hockey I've ever watched. Brodeur taking the mantle from Roy and getting 2 gold medals for his country are some of my favorite memories.

IMO when you talk about the greatest of all time, I think the idea of if they revolutionized the game is a factor. Patrick Roy revolutionized the position with the butterfly style. No he didn't invent it, but he and his success with it is the reason why goalies went from mostly stand-up to butterfly, including Brodeur...oh and 4 Cups doesn't hurt either. That's why I give it to Roy. But I loved Brodeur too and get why many go with him in this debate.
And completely agreed that if you had to take a goalie for one game in his absolute prime, I'd go Hasek hands down. I've never seen a goalie as good as he was in the late 90's.

Came in looking for a sister in law comment, changed my mind and left with a better option.
Also wanted to add "sisters" in the title somewhere if possible but that's probably a stretch too!
Marty was one of, if not the best of all time over his career. I hated him for not being on tr flames and loved him for being on team Canada.
