10 out of 10 scouts have Matthews ranked #1.
Scouts say he has a chance to be in the same stratosphere as Jack Eichel.

#2 Laine
7 out of 10 scouts have him at #2
some scouts believe that anyone is going to challenge Matthews as 1st OA, its going to be Laine
#3 Puljujarvi
has the ability to score goals like Laine, but more of a complete player than Laine
lot of the scouts felt that Laine is more of a pure goal scorer/flashier (re why Laine over Puljujarvi)

of the 10 scouts Bob talked to, 5 said Matthews is a lock for 1st OA. other 5 said they would really have to wonder about if Laine has a chance to unseat Matthews.
#4 Tkachuk
#5 Chychrun
#6 Nylander
#7 Juolevi - 3/10 scouts have him ranked ahed of Chychrun
#8 Dubois - top ranked Canadian
#9 McLeod
#10 Gauthier
Button's Comparables
Matthews = Trottier
Laine = Tarasenko
Puljujarvi = Wheeler
Tkachuk = landeskog
Chychrun = Bogosian
Nylander = Pavelski
Juolevi = Brodie
Dubois = Steen
McLeod = Larkin
Gauthier = Neal

I have a feeling the Flames end up in the Alex Nylander/McLeod/Juolevi area.
McLeod and Nylander would top my wish list for CGY.
Surprised Sergachyev isn't up in the top ten.

Button's best in class
Best skater: Chychrun
Best Hands: Nylander
Smartest player: Matthews
Best shot: Matthews
Biggest heart: Tkachuk
Benson, Clague, Steel are considered wild cards by McKenzie. Mckenzie highlights that outside of the top 20 there is a lot of volatility in the rankings. Guys ranked in the 20s may be interchangeable with guys ranked 31-50.

I know this is a TSN list but I would be surprised if Sportsnet didn't go all out for the draft this year, there's going to be probably 5 or 6 Canadian teams picking in the top 10

My list of who I hope the Flames have a crack at.
1. Matthews
2. Laine
3. Puljujarvi
4. Gauthier
5. Chychrun
6. Tkachuk
7. Dubois
8. McLeod
9. Bean
10. Bellows
Other players I would be happy if they got a crack at include Tufte, Jones, Brown, Thompson, Bastain, DeBrincat, Raddysh, Hart, Fitzpatrick, and Sawchenko,. Hopefully the Flames will garner a few more draft picks and come away with three or more of these guys.

If other teams share the view that 23-51 are pretty much interchangeable, that is the range you want to stock up on picks.
Whether it is just being lucky and a guy you really like more than the rest falls to your pick(s).
Or
Gives you the ability to trade up to snatch a guy, you can't believe has fallen to that range
Or
Allows you to trade back and get a similar prospect a few spots later plus another pick.
This is where the scouting staff needs to earn their money and identify jewels in the rough.

Exceptional player status Sean Day not in the top 30 (ranked 46). Still can't figure out why he was given that status. So odd.
