If we can get Monahan for that I'd be very happy.

Not just for Monahan but also add $1million for Gaudreau's starting point.

I'll take Monahan at 6.5/7 years.

WTF If we can get Monahan long-term under 6 I'll just shake my head. Who is this kid's agent?

Decent contract from my perspective. And a supreme bargain if he can consistently put up the kind of season he is having this year. They save 600k on the standard Oiler 6x6.

If we signed Monahan to that contract length, I'd be very happy indeed.

Monahan has significantly more goals and better overall stats than Barkov. If I'm him using this as a comparable, I start at 7.5M/year and don't budge under 7.

Barkov is better than Monahan.
I would be disappointed if Monahan got more than this.

Barkov is having a break out year with 12 goals and 30 points
Monahan is considered by many to be struggling with 14 goals and 29 points
Monahan is going to cost more.

Haven't watched that many Panthers games but from what I've heard Barkov is a defensive stud as well as being decent offensively.

That's going to be an absolute steal by the end of next season.
Re: the Monahan contact comparable - Barkov is a much better defensive player/play driver than Monahan, and marginally better offensive player at this point. But Monahan had the big year last year and is (somewhat questionably at the moment) lauded for his "200 ft game", so it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Monahan's contract end up being extremely close in value, regardless of merit (not meant as a shot at Sean, as he is a very decent player already with still-untapped potential).

Good deal. Sean should get about 6.5 or less.

well Barkov has also played significantly less games because of injuries. If you look at it from a point per game perspective, it's actually pretty close (0.62 vs 0.55). Plus Barkov is having a great season and is very good defensively.
If Barkov makes 5.9, Monahan should get somewhere between 6 and 6.5 in my opinion.
