Hate to see him having concussion issues so early into his career. Hopefully not too serious.

And that's going to be an issue with him throughout his career with the type of game he plays. Too bad, he just got a good shot at a top 6 role too.

What happened today has nothing to do with the style of game he plays. Could have happened to anyone.

He's already had three concussions by my count in the NHL. Not a good pattern however which way you want to slice it.

I can only think of one (Volchenkov hit), two if this injury turns out to be a concussion.

^ yeah, the Volchenkov one was a cheap shot (head shot)... not a pattern of his game, but that sucks... I hope this isn't serious...

Roger Millions @RogMillions
Just spoke to Micheal Ferland looks good and says "I feel good." Get the impression he will be good for the games ahead #Flames

Just normal concussion protocol for a player with a history. It makes sense to pull him out and see what happens.

So keeping him out might have just been precautionary? I'd imagine him being available for comment at all is a really good sign

It was a knee to the head that happened because of his style of play...you know the kind of play where you wear skates and play on the ice. It was a freak accident and he was likely pulled because the team really didn't need him last night. I'm sure he would have wanted to play but the coaching staff decided to rest him. I think it was a good call just so he could rest and not have to worry about anything. I think he'll be in next game and this won't even be an issue.

All due respect to Roger Millions, he has a track record of making assumptions and I also wouldn't necessarily trust the pro athlete's self diagnosis either. They'll always say they're fine.

That's good news for sure regardless if he plays next game or not.

I missed the play, he took a knock to the head? I think it's good the flames taking precautions with players like that. makes you wonder what the florida medical staff were thinking putting ekblad back into the game after the hendricks hit.

He was on his knees in front of the BJ's net and someone skated by and their knee hit his head. Ferland was slow to get up and went straight to the bench. I didn't notice if he returned or not. A complete accident, and really had nothing to do with his style of play as someone suggested.

It also bent his neck back violently (which is also a concussion issue).

It doesn't have to do with his style of play. But his style of play makes him vulnerable to more concussions, especially if he fights.

I think the Flames can manage just fine without him and his 2 goals and 8 points. That said I don't wish any injuries to any players and I hope he's good to go soon.

Ferland out tomorrow against the Hurricanes:

"David Jones will, in the absence of Micheal Ferland, will be skating with Johnny and Mony," head coach Bob Hartley said after Saturday's practice at the Raleigh Center Ice arena.

"(Ferland's) good, he’s good. It’s upper body. He’s not good to be on the ice but he should be back on the ice in the next couple days. It’s not going to be long-term."

Hartley is hopeful Ferland, who missed eight games earlier in the season with an upper body injury, will be able to suit up on Monday when the Flames close out their road trip in Dallas.
