Well that's unfortunate. Machine is still one of my favourite "dumb loud guitar" albums when I feel like pretending I'm 17 again.

I was always a fan of Wayne's playing & taste in guitars as well, matte black flying Vs? How can you beat that?

As with many rock stars, yes, but it he seemed to have put it behind him. This interview published Oct 21, 2014 (likely his last) suggested he was clean currently.

This press release from his publicist says "This is not a drug related incident or an O. D...".

In the immediate aftermath of the announcement one of the guys from Papa Roach posted on Instagram suggesting it was an OD, but he's since the deleted the post.

So who knows, maybe he relapsed, maybe he just did too much damage over the years and despite being clean it caught up with him. Or maybe he just had a bum ticker that gave out early, regardless of his past habits.

Tera Wray, a former adult film star and widow of Wayne Static, has died. Tera was found dead on Jan. 14 from an apparent suicide, according to a report. She was only 33. Her husband died of a drug overdose in Nov. 2014
