If Johnny played for the Nucks or Oilers I wouldn't hesitate to list him either. He's worth the price of admission in most games he plays in now.
Just as I'll probably list McDavid in a year or two given his abilities. But hopefully not.

I only read like the first 30 posts but only saw Gaudreau's name like twice. Unless he got some very late love.

Shultz has to be the top of my list. I mean I'm not only impressed that he's still in the NHL but that he's actually been paid millions for what he's done.
I think us Flames fans are spoiled by having Gaudrea, the kid is an absolutely amazing player.

I question the results of the polling when McDavid, with his 13 NHL game career, is one of the most popular choices.

Its funny... If you look at the players listed, the standard picks of malkin, ovi, and players of that ilk get mentioned by fans from across the league. If you look at the "outlier" picks its almost always fans of teams in the same conference. Gaudreau for example is listed by oiler, canuck, and kings the most but he's also gets lists from a few eastern fans as well.
Seems to me that the people who've seen him play against them the most recognize what he's becoming but Gaudreau is one of the few "New" players in the league being recognized outside their conference. Not sure if this has to do with his NJ roots or his tendency to make the highlight reel but it bodes well for the franchise.
I bet he makes a lot of new fans after his all star appearance, its the perfect storm for him. 3 on 3, National Audience, Prime time, on arguably the weakest team he'll stand out, and 2nd all star game some of the "awe" factor will be warn off.

You're absolutely right. He's going to be the focus of that game entirely.
Not only is he the best 3 on 3 player in the league, but he's also on the team that will get all the John Scott attention.

I think you mean: he's on the team that will get knocked out immediately because John Scott is on the team

I dunno... Johnny doesn't seem to need a whole lot to end overtimes.
Johnny with any of the 3D is pretty lethal. He could also be kept off Scotts line.

I thought that too, until I got to the third page and he's mentioned by every second person.

Brodie is going to be on that list REAL quick here too. Guy is unreal. I won't be surprised in the least if he puts up 50 points this year, pushes 65 next year and gets into the Norris conversation.

I judge exciting players in this way:
When they are rushing the puck OUT OF THEIR OWN ZONE, your butt creeps closer to the edge

The Johnny effect. Every time I'm watching a game and I'm not looking at the tv, as soon as I here the word Johnny my full attention is on the screen.

I don't get all that McDavid love. He's only played for a few weeks. Must be all that oiler propaganda that's been spewing out

The propaganda is not limited to Edmonton. It's nationwide.
