Impressions:
Okay. I was cautiously optimistic when I read the early reports, that the devs played a lot of NHL 94' before developing this game, were getting back to basics, etc.
I'm now sold.
For the first time in maybe 4 years, I'm really excited about an EA Hockey game. The skating feels right, the shooting feels right. It all feels like it should, and the presentation is better than ever. Sure, the demo may be a little too arcade, however there's no line-changes/fatigue, etc. I think this game is going to be really good. Finally, they just might have gotten it right. This is the first NHL Demo since probably 03' that I haven't turned off after 2 mins.
The skill stick is a bit on the lame side... but after "total control checking" and "break-away bullet-time" it's a feature I can live with.

Whoops, I guess I missed the topic that someone apparently posted before me. Sorry.
As for my thoughts on the game/demo:
-It's on "Easy" mode, so I think the game will be nice and challenging when I put it on Difficult. Hopefully at that level the CPU AI will set up more plays in their offensive zone (my D zone), and do things like cycle the puck, work screends/deflections, and even play dump and chase now and then for line changes too.
-End of period highlights are real nice. I have said time and time again that I think each time a goal is scored the following replay should be shown from more than one angle. They still haven't done that, however, the end of period highlights do show it from several angles, you just have to wait til the end of period to see it. I can live with that.
-Gamplay seems real nice this year. It's not super fast which is good, and the hitting has been toned down drastically which is even better. I noticed when you try to throw checks if you're not lined up properly you won't necessarily knock the other guy down all the time. However, if you're a relatively bigger guy like Tucker and you go after St. Louis, even if you don't line him up perfectly, you will probably knock him down most of the time due to the size difference. I really like that as well.
-My one gripe is the commentary. It's still pretty bland, aside from a few new tidbits of information here and there. I have a feeling it's going to get old and redundant fast, just like in the last two years or so. I guess it's hard for them to try and make a lot of new audio clips, but to be honest one of the things I think that would make the game a lot more realistic presentation wise is if they had the two announcers talking to one another about the game in a less formal manner. Right now it seems so scripted and cookier-cutter like, cuz they always say things like "now the puck goes to Brad Richards -- a player who scored XX amount of goals while playing for Roumiski."....and so on. Instead of that same crap every game, I would rather the announcers say things to each other like "Tampa's been playing a tight checking game today, and I think it's going to pay off for them real soon. What do you think Craig? Then insert some lines from the other commentator about whether or not he agrees or disagrees.
-Lastly, I have to say I really like the hit-stick. I haven't yet seen if every player is able to pull of those moves, and if they can I'll be disappointed, however, I really REALLY like how this year you can perform some nice deke moves instead of hitting the same button game after game year after year that did the same stupid deke over and over again. It's nice to have some variety for those certain star players who can really showcase their skills.
Anywho, overall I am pretty excited for the actual release of the game. I think it'll be pretty solid.

I was pretty impressed seeing as that it was locked to Easy with no sliders. The only thing I didnt like(besides the fact I had to choose between the Dolts and Laughs) was that the defense wasnt aggressive at all though it was on Easy.
One thing I will be changing though is that picture of Vinny the Wimp holding the cup to this:

The Playstation demo also has Leafs vs Lightning.
hasn't the demo always been the 2 cup final teams?
Why did we get the shaft? Kind of passes me off.

We didn't. The flames and bolts were on last year's NHL. Just because there was no NHL doesn't mean there wasn't a game released.
They probabley took the Bolts because they are an "exciting" young american team.. and the Laffs because they are the most popular team in Canada.

I understand this is a Flames forum and there might be some hate coming back now that the season is nearing closer, but why is everyone ragging on Vinny and the Lightning? Being from Tampa (near it at least) is pretty upsetting.
How can you think Vinny isn't a tough player? He's 6'4" and I'll be damned if I've ever gone to a game where he let someone push him around. It just doesn't happen.
And why are the Bolts quoted as being exciting? I'm sure you all watched every second of the finals last year, and I can give both teams insane amounts of credit for being extremely exciting. I wasn't bored watching at all. The games were close and intense throughout.
So, please, have some consideration for others next time you are going to say something, or at least provide some reasons or explanations as to why you're saying such things.

I lost any respect I had for the guy when he acted like he had been shot when he got hit from behind in game 4 and as soon as Nemo got five minutes and the game he got up like it was nothing serious. I'm ashamed to see a Team Canada jersey on the guy because that kind of crap isnt Canadian hockey and from now on I will always think of the guy as a big *$#@!.

I don't remember the incident in particular, but just from a defensive standpoint pretty much every player has, at least one time or another, gone down and pretended to be hurt longer than the hit required. At any rate, a check from behind is almost always dangerous no matter how you look at it, so I can't necessarily blame him.
Moreover, Vinny does stick up for his own teammates, like St. Louis for example who's real tiny and often times has a hard time with lots of "bullies" always targeting him. It's always easier to hate a guy who's not on your favorite team. I think you'd feel different towards Vinny, if not even a little bit, if he were on the Flames and you could see his work ethic and toughness.
