Default Expansion on the agenda at 'special' meeting

Quote:
Sources tell The Dreger Report the NHL's executive committee is planning a “special” meeting in New York City between now and the end of January. Expansion will be the primary agenda item as the league and its designated leadership continues to work through the information compiled from Las Vegas and Quebec City, the two official expansion applicants.

Details of the meeting are limited. It's highly unlikely the executive committee will emerge with a formal decision, but the fact the NHL has called this meeting suggests it is inching toward a conclusion. The meeting is designed to be somewhat secretive, so the NHL won't provide a post-meeting progress report or announce its direction until the process is finalized, which could still be months away.

hmmm

Do we take hundreds of millions dollars of free cash, put teams in cities with brand new arenas, proven ticket sales, and whose owners paid a 10 million dollar bid fee.

or

Just say naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Thanks for the non-refundable deposit suckers!

Was the bid fee really that much?

I wonder if the draft lottery is going to be on the agenda. It better be. Burke was very vocal last year saying that preventing drafting from the top several years in a row needs to be addressed by the league (e.g. no more than X top-three pics in Y consecutive years). When I think that Edmonton could be having yet another first pick this year, my bile level is getting elevated.

It was $10M I believe. With $2M being non refundable.

They may reimburse the remaining minus the costs the league incurred in their investigation.

Yeah but the 2 million probably bought you a consolation prize, such as first dibs on franchises up for sale

I sure hope it's addressed.

If an organization can't put together a decent team after three consecutive top-3 picks (decent enough to get them out of the bottom of the league) then they don't deserve to continue drafting the best young talent. It's frustrating as hell seeing the Oilers make a joke of the draft.

Especially when a playoff team from last year built off a #6, a 4th rounder and a bunch of spare parts, is the BIGGEST up and comer!

I thought "Special Meetings" had been trademarked by the Oilers' scouting staff...
