Flames Jan 6 Practice - Frolik close to returning to practice. Engelland in. Smid out.

Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
Michael Frolik will return to practice wearing a no-contact jersey "shortly", according to #Flames Head Coach Bob Hartley.

Kristen Odland @KristenOdlandCH
Engelland in for Smid tomorrow as per Hartley.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames lines unchanged today: Gaudreau-Monahan-Colborne; Ferland-Backlund-Jones; Bennett-Granlund-Raymond; Bouma-Stajan-Jooris

Kristen Odland @KristenOdlandCH
No other lineup changes beyond that which means Ramo starts in net and Raymond and Jooris are still in.

Do you think he would go to the AHL for conditioning? Or get him back playing with the team asap and hope for the best

So he'll be practicing but his GRIT # will be 0?

Some might think he's over paid but for what he brings to this team and the options he allows the team make him worth it in my eyes. I really like the guy and he seems like the kind of guy who will win you championships because of his versatility.

Only one change tomorrow vs. Arizona...Engelland back in for Smid. Ramo makes his 11th straight start. #Flames

Hmmmm. I really liked how Smid played last night. I'm unsure if Engellend is an upgrade.

Don't get why they are putting Engelland in, Smid has been much better. All Engelland does is rim the puck around the boards

I really like Engelland but strange decision taking out Smid, thought he was solid last night.

They just rotate Smid and Engelland to keep them both warm. Similar players.

Don't forget Engelland was a serviceable #4 last season when Gio went down last season. With the addition of Hamilton though that wouldn't have to happen again if a top 4 went down, thank god.

Hartley really should be playing both Smid and Engelland. Sit Wideman.

Smid's been just awesome. He's earned more ice time not less

Except he wasn't. He was being carried by Brodie, who's probably a top 15 Dman in the world, by a thread and consistently looked in way over his head and getting burnt often and saved by goaltending that was standing on its head.

I've been fine with Engelland this season but he's definitely not shown he deserves to be in over Smid. I'm okay with rotating him in occasionally but he's gotten the majority of the games while Smid gets in rarely and yet all our best games tend to come with Smid in.

Good point, Brodie could make a freaking pylon look good.

But if Wideman sits who will be there to shoot pucks into shin pads on the powerplay?
