Default The Spengler Cup Thread 2015

I like to follow the Spengler because you get to see some blasts from the past like Matthew Lombardi, Devin Setoguchi (Davos), David Moss (Davos), Henrik Karlsson (Jokerit), NIk Hagman (Jokerit), etc!

Here is a link to Team Canada's Roster:

http://stats.hockeycanada.ca/roster/...bseason=265422

I've seen a few games including Autolknsadflk;jhsdf Jekaasdfkjhfsdjkhberg beating Davos and at the end pulling their goalie on a 5-on-3 to have a 6-on-3 despite leading leading 5-1. Also their coach may or may not be loosely affiliated with Russian Gangsters. Its just intuition but he took a bench minor for insulting the refs and he just has that look about him.

Davos is 0-2 while Canada is the only 2-0 team.

I used to love watching this tournament as well but it's no longer on TV in the UK.

Any known coverage in the US of A? I wouldn't mind watching just to see that cool arena with the weird benches/penalty boxes, and hear a lot of cowbells and whistling.

I love Euro hockey for the fans. Those people are nutso.

I wish north american fans weren't so prim and proper and let loose in the stands like these guys do.

TSN 2 at noon - Yekaterinburg vs. Mannheim

Tomorrow morning, (3PM Davos time) Canada plays Davos in the semi finals. Winner plays in the finals on NYE.

The Spengler Cup was some of the best hockey games I've ever been to. You've never experienced hockey until you've been in the standing room section at the end of the arenas, watching Canada play Davos. You're crammed in there, no room to move, but it's deafening from the singing and cheering. Pictures do not do it justice.

This picture was from 2010, Canada lost to SKA St. Petersburg in the finals. So much fun.

I have a buddy that played in Europe, and he said the same thing.

When he compared AHL crowd to a Euro crowd.

Team Canada sends the HC Davos fans home unhappy...

Giroux's goal at 15:26 tied the contest 5-5 before Conacher scored the game winner 65 seconds later. Perttu Lindgren had put HC Davos ahead 5-4 at 7:33 after Canada erased an early 4-1 deficit at Vaillant Arena.

Canada will face either Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg or HC Lugano in the final Thursday. The Canadians, who also defeated HC Davos 2-0 on Monday, will be looking for their first Spengler Cup title since 2012

That was a good game, gave the crowd plenty to cheer about. Would love to see that tournament one day, looks like a great rink and crowd!

It looked to me like they had some great cameras there too, lots of good angles and slow motion shots, image looked super crisp even on my crappy TV... sure makes some of RSN's broadcasts look like garbage imo.

Wow, there's a strong Calgary connection with the Spengler Cup team this year - Aulie, Johnson, Cundari, Lombardi, and former Hitmen, Kris Foucault

If little bobby hears a swear word his ears will melt.

Also, European fans won't get offended if you call Corey Perry, Katy Perry.

I went last year and it was wild. The crowd warms up at the game and afterwards everyone goes to a tent outside the rink set up like a beer hall with wooden benches and tables. Lots of dancing on tables but real dude heavy

That roster is hilarious, but good on them all!

Cant blame a player going over to Europe to play. Decent pay, good life, and fan support.

I just laugh though at the notion of team Canada! The dumbest fan in all of Canada could pull plugs from an nhl roster and decimate the teams in this tournament.

I am amazed by how crazy the fans are for this tournament, yet good on them.

I am sure lots of European hockey fans say the same about the annual U-19 tournament.

Nothing but respect for those players...skipping their Christmas break over there to play for Canada; for fun, and for the country, and not with the expectation of any TSN-generated hype or notoriety.

Why laugh ? It's an invitation only tournament. In 2013 and 1996 the AHL Rochester Americans were invited.

It is the worlds OLDEST invitation only tournament for hockey. Oxford University won 2/3 of the first years played.

This tournament is the essence of history for tournaments you may have played in as a kid or take your kids to.

I loved watching this tournament throughout my life but then I cut the cable cord and have not seen it since.

I would love to get to see this tournament live on day. There is just such a rich part of hockey history that gets neglected and is so under appreciated .
