Flames just got schooled by a far superior team, that's all (although their slow start didn't help). Until we get some more size and grit into our forward lineup, we'll continue to get smoked by teams like LA, Anaheim and St. Louis. Sadly this rebuild is likely gonna take longer than we all hoped, as the Flames are still nowhere near elite level yet.

We need to move on from Russell and Wideman on D. Get someone who is more defensive minded in the top 4. Man, Hamonic would be perfect.

No idea why the coaching staff gives so many minutes to guys like Colborne and Hudler when they are providing absoutely nothing, and another guy who is busting his butt gets limited minutes. Earned, never given... hmm... Very frustrating. There are a lot of mediocre at best players right now.

Ah well. Happy new year everyone. I wish you guys and the Flames a great 2016!

I would really like to see what Nakladal can do over Wideman or Russell. Can't be worse can he?

Was that Willem Dafoe in the crowd behind the Flames bench?

That was an entertaining game, LA are nut busters, hard to play against and what few chances you get you need to make the most, but the Flames just had no puck luck, hell the only goal they scored was from Doughty tipping it... so sad! But lots of good attempts and effort by the young guns.

The refs sure were particular about what they wanted to call... so tiring, but what can you do. Except bitch...

Hartley... I hope you are playing some people as an attempt to either let them climb out from their self-dug holes, or continue digging it so deep that come next year you have lots to show Tre what needs to be done... otherwise you're just a sadistic #######!

Difficult to believe Hartley is dumb enough to keep giving regular ice time to guys like Hudler gotta be something else going on. Right?

Colborne? Odd timing. He has 3 points in his last 4 games and is a +3 over that period. He's contributing, in a quiet way, at the moment. Which is more than can be said for a few others.

It seemed like they couldn't hit the net at all on key chances. A lot of wasted opportunities.
I felt the second goal was on Ramo. He had a chance to freeze the puck for the tired line out there and instead he decided to sweep the puck to the corner.
All in all tough one to watch.
Quick back to his Venza self after looking off last year.

I've liked his play too, and thought he was pretty good tonight as well.

Russell and Wideman we're the worst two out there by far. But the defense in general was not very good tonight. Lots of giveaways trying to move the puck up the middle all night.

I thought he played pretty well, had some good jump and was in the mix all night. All I'd really have preferred to see him do tonight is on the PP to use that big body to block his line of sight. Standing to the side and trying for tips isn't working.

I want to defend Wideman here. He has his flaws and they're magnified when he's paired with Russell or Engelland but he's a good defenseman and we tend to see it when he's paired with Gio, Brodie, or Hamilton (though he can't handle being top pairing). I'm also fine with him on the PP - he's not the one calling plays for himself.

LA has got to be the cup favorite. Running away with the division and no sign of slowing down. No need to wait to turn the switch on during the last week of the season. Its been on since day one.

No shame in losing to a team like that. But just goes to show the flames have a long way to go.

Hudler and Russell did not do anything tonight to encourage the Flames not to trade them.

It is so odd in a contract year to have guys like this playing so poorly.

I am a big fan of both players, but my God Hudler has looked 30 years older out on the ice, and Russell like he left his hockey sense and skills in the locker room. I am upset because I know these guys can be better, a fn mile better. At least it looks like Russell is trying, cant say that about Hudler!

Sam Bennett! Give the kid a year or two, I am impressed now. 10 15 more pounds, little more experience, and some better linemates, he could be a force out there.

The Flames have no alternatives on the right side. If Hudler and Colborne are playing as effectively as Raymond, which they have been this month, you are not going to get effective play from their line.

It is easy to key in on Monahan and Gaudreau when Hudler is on the ice, because he doesn't do anything.

The problem is that there is no way to easily remedy the situation until the offseason when we can let Hudler among others walk if they aren't dealt before hand and address it either at the draft or in UFA. Even an average 2nd/3rd line RW would be a massive upgrade than what we have.

Heading into 2016, only Toronto (1 pt) Buffalo (2 pts) Edmonton (3 pts) and Columbus (5 pts) trail the flames and by the amount in the parenthesis. Yes, we are 3 points out of home ice and 2 out of a playoff spot, but it will be difficult to leapfrog anyone if we are not getting any offensive help outside Gaudreau and the defensemen.

Yeah I am frustrated with some of the Flames, with Wideman and Russell heading the list. But some of our overpriced forwards are on that list too.

problem is, it doesn't seem like anyone is knocking the door down to take their spots away. Feels like some of our prospects in the AHL should be doing better than they are.

That is a problem, none of the forwards outside of maybe Agostino and Shore are looking ready in case of injury. Everyone else has been shades of okay to bad.

On defense, Kylington is looking good, but it would be best not to rush him other than to give him a game at the end of the year if the Flames are done. Nakladal could probably play tomorrow if necessary.
