Good lord, this is not the way to head into New Years. Hoping for minimal injuries and casualties.

That looks crazy, top to bottom is engulfed in flames. Hoping that everyone gets out and is safe.

Good God. That building will be gone in no time. Any word on if they managed to evacuate?
EDIT: Should have clicked the link. Sounds like the building was fully evacuated

That's horrific.
Would a gas leak cause something like that?

Fires on the exterior cladding of buildings are actually ridiculously common in the UAE, we had another tall building on fire like that in recent months. Today, you can't even tell it happened. A few years back they passed a law stating exterior cladding on skyscrapers had to be fire proof. Lots of wind + lots of cigarette and shisha smokers = a daily fire hazard in this country.
Not sure if that's the case with tonight's fire, but it kinda looks like it. That's the Address in Downtown Dubai, located in the same plaza with Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. If the fireworks are going ahead, this incident must be pretty well under control by now.

New Year's fireworks are going to be anti-climactic after seeing that.

Wow, didn't expect it to be such a huge fire when opening the thread.
It looks like Batman's logo attempt went awry.

What is with the Middle East governments censoring these types of stories? Stone Age thinking.

Since these guys don't believe in insurance, somebody's fitting that bill. Not starting off the new year too happy I assume.

These massive buildings go up in flames all the time. Two went up in last year I was in and out of Dubai. The residents are pretty used to it. I don't think they are morons, this just isn't all that shocking or disturbing.

Read an article that 70 percent of the scrapers there are clad in highly flammable material and that it is too expensive to fix. Crazy!
