Kassian is awful. Scrivens should bounce back playing for a team that has defensemen playing for it.

That means, of his $2.3 million salary, the Oilers will be paying $552,000. The Habs will cover the remaining $1.748 million.
Kassian's salary is $1.75 million, so the money is basically a wash.
I eagerly await the return of Scrivezina, and the second straight season that the Masterton Trophy goes to a former Oiler goaltender for doing nothing more than surviving being a former Oiler goaltender.

Edmonton had to do something after "Killer" Sam Bennett wrecked their team last night.

If he makes the club he better not be targeting Johnny. Hopefully his problems are behind him but I'm doubtful.

Christ, could you imagine. Recovering alcoholic/drug addict or whichever it is, and you get traded to literally the arse-end of Canada.
If ever he needed a final nail in the coffin, this is it.

Honest question here: When does anyone think Kassian will be able to play a game for the Oilers? He's missed most of the season with substance abuse suspension, so I imagine he still isn't really in mid-season form.
Knowing the Oilers, he'll probably play their next game.

Sacrilegious but I like this move from the Oilers.
As long as they monitor Kassian to make sure he doesn't negatively influence any of the youngsters outside of the rink, there's no real risk. If he hasn't turned it around, tell him to stay home - costs the same as Scrivens did who wasn't doing anything for the Oilers. But if he does return to form, you got a potential 15-20 goal scorer with size to play on the third line and cause havoc in front of the net. Getting bullied by 185 pound Bennett was embarrassing for the Oilers, some one like Kassian (maybe not Kassian himself) is needed up north.
Besides, he's a first round pick and we all know you can only create a hockey team with first round picks.

Especially when you consider the exploits of the wunderkinds in the bars after games. A lot of temptation there for a guy known for succumbing to temptation.

Ch'Ch'Ch'Chia. Chiarelli probably wants to poke his eyes out watching the Oil play soft. Desperation move to make them tougher to play against.

Its not a terrible deal, he's on a fairly cheap contract, and he's an RFA at the end of the year.
He's a prototypical cheap shot artist, but he can score goals, but his game has slid into the toilet.
But it was clear last night that the Oilers are way to soft and they had to do something.

This deal was finalized long before the game last night but the roster freeze prevented it from happening sooner.
He is a big guy and the Oil need some size/sandpaper, so there may be a fit here. All depends on his mental state right now.
