Default 2016 WJC: Final Round Robin Day. Canada vs Sweden 11 AM

Final day for the round robin.

It has already been determined that Belarus and Switzerland will play for relegation. Those two teams will play a best of 3 series to determine who gets relegated for next year's tournament.

Very interesting standings. USA, Canada, or Denmark could finish as high as 2nd and as low as 4th in Group A, pending the outcome of today's games. Sweden has already won Group A.

Also very strange not to see a Canadian in the top of tournament scoring at this point.

Group B. Russia vs Slovakia. In progress 2-0 Russia in the 2nd period. TSN 2.
Group A. Denmark vs USA. 7AM MT. TSN 1.
Group B. Finland vs Czech. 9AM MT. TSN 2.
Group A. Sweden vs Canada. 11AM MT. TSN 1.

If you have a chane go watch Finland. The line of Laine-Aho-Puljujarvi has been the most dynamic line of the tournament. Laine and Puljujarvi will make two teams really happy at the 2016 draft.

Also a little bit of intrigue with William Nylander who has not played since taking a blindside hit in Sweden' first game. He was scheduled to have a press conference a little while ago, but Sweden's doctors mysteriously cancelled it.

Russia beats Slovakia 2-1.

Russia wins Group B and will play whoever finishes 4th in Group A in the quarterfinals.

If my quick math is correct, the only way for Canada to face Russia in the quarterfinals is if the Americans lose to Denmark in regulation and Canada loses to Sweden in regulation.

Denmark/USA tied at 1 in the 2nd.

From what I've seen, Canada should be cheering for the Czechs today (assuming the US wins in regulation). Finland looks to be the scarier team.

Apparently, the reason the press conference was cancelled was, according to the team doctor, "that we want to protect him. It´s about the attention. There are a lot of impressions to deal with."

During the press conference, he was asked if Maple Leafs had anything to do with the decision.
"I´m not comfortably with that formulation, I think it is his English that seems to cause a problem. This decision was all made by Team Sweden."

Yeah, I don´t get the answers either, but the Swedish press are having a field day AWS.

USA up 2-1 over Denmark after 2 periods.

If USA holds on to win in regulation, Canada will finish 3rd in Group A regardless of the outcome vs Sweden. Canada will face the winner of the Czechs vs Finland match for the quarterfinals in this scenario

Always cheer for Canada but man leaf fans will be disappointed by having saviour #1 out with concussion issues and saviour #2 (who has been referred to as the next Patrick Kane round these parts already) continue to disappoint at the big stage....

USA beats Denmark 4-1.

The Canada vs Sweden game is pretty much meaningless for the Canadians. Regardless of the outcome Canada will face the winner of Czech vs Finland which is currently 0-0.

Confirmed quarterfinals:

Denmark will face Russia
Sweden will face Slovakia

If the Czechs win it will be
USA vs Finland
Canada vs Czech.

If Finland wins it will be
USA vs Czech
Canada vs Finland

I rarely complain about officiating, but this stuff in the Finland/Czech game is horrendous. Makes games unwatchable.

4-3 Czechs now with 10 left in the 3rd. Explosive 2nd period (1st was 0-0, 2nd was 3-3)

Well, one benefit if we get blown out is getting to see a lot of Sweden girls celebrating.

Silver linings.

Not a good start for a less than stellar Canadian team.

Marner promptly skates into three defenders to try and beat them all.

Pretty much this team in a nutshell.
