Gordon Wilhelm, housecall wills and estates.
Comes to your house to do the work (way better than carting kids into an office or trying to find a sitter) and a very nice guy. Several people I work with have used him and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

What is a realistic price to have a will done up?

Really what you want is a will, enduring power of attorney and personal directive. With those three documents you have all that you need (and really any lawyer should set you up that way).

Question: Have an existing will, but currently neck-deep in separation/custody battle that's becoming very nasty. If I just made a new will, does it nullify the old one or do I need to go through a process to void the old one?

I'm not a lawyer, but I think what you want is a codicil. You basically amend your will, not void it.

My understanding is that the new Wills and Succession Act (Alberta) no longer has a will immediately become invalid upon a marriage or divorce, so you will need to do up a new one.
You can also get one done that contemplates an upcoming divorce.
talk to Troutman about it. He will know more than I will.

To void a will, all you have to do is destroy it.
However, in your case, you would want to make a new will asap and revoke the old will.
With no will, your estate would go to your wife by default.

Holy F did you just light a fire under my buttocks.
I assume the above link (NW something or other) is your firm? Does your receptionist know who troutman is or do I need a real name to book an apt?

The staff knows about CP, but probably not about troutman.
What happens to your estate if there is no will?
