Default Isles bring in Bogosian

The Isles and Sabres have been working on putting together a deal over the last 3 weeks and finally got one complete today.

It breaks down as follows:

To Isles

Bogosian (74)

To Sabres

Calvin Pickard (75)
Adam Lowry (64)
Gustaf Olofsson
Tyler Randell

This deal went through a few revisions with the league, so it took a fair bit of time. The biggest controversy was around Pickard and his value.

Pickard played 17 games last year for the Avs and had the 2nd best SV% in the league. We think he is going to be a starter in this league, it's just a matter of time.

Sabres also get Lowry who is a 22yr old centreman playing 3rd line steadily. His point production is down this year as happens with a lot of 2nd year players but he is playing a lot of minutes in many situations.

Olofsson is a 2nd round prospect of the Wild and performed very well at their training camp this year. He is a big mobile dman and has lots of upside.

Randell was a random signing of mine and has 4 goals as a rookie.

For me, Bogosian is a big solid stay at home dman with some upside, although he still hasn't shown this yet I am hoping he can pick it up. He has been injured up until now so likely will drop in ratings but over the long term we think he is worth moving all the assets we did.

Thanks SportsJunky for the deal, it took time but I think we are both happy with the outcome

Tough call here because a lot of this comes down to how Pickard turns out. If he is a starter and a good one, it's a good deal for the Sabres. If not though it's tough because then it's quantity for quality and dmen like Bogosian just don't come around every day.

so who's the 4th piece beside Pickard, Lowry and Randell? You're saying Olofsson but the transaction and GM pages say Collberg

Yeah, we made a mistake. Olofsson is the 4th piece. He actually clinched the deal for me. Simmer threw him in at the 11th hour.

This was a funny deal to put together. We have been going back and forth for weeks. I wanted Pickard from the get go but I was obviously reluctant to give up Bogosian. I had a handful of GMs counsel me not to take some earlier versions of the deal before Olofsson was included.

In the end, Simmer and I went around and around on this until we found a combination that made sense to us and the league. Obviously, I believe Pickard will be in the NHL next year and has a shot at starting. That's why I felt safe in sending Ramo to San Jose a couple of days ago. Lowry is a young upgrade for me on my checking line. Randell was a throw away.

Thanks to simmer for all the patience during this and thanks to the league for letting us figure this out.

That's my fourth trade in a couple of days so I'll take the rest of the night off.

Would you say it was a BOGO offer?
