Another quick and easy deal. Punk wanted Schenn and we came to terms.

Merill/Miller/2nd are good additions to the pool.

I think Miller has potential to put up Schenn numbers. Merill and a 2nd are the cherry on top.

Basically this move came together when I heard the Flames weren't fans of Lack. Eddie is one of those characters that make hockey fun and interesting, so I knew I needed him on my team. This year he'll be an upgrade on Mike Smith, another GM favorite, but when you can get younger and more skilled between the pipes you take it!

In my 24 hours of being the Vancouver GM, my priority was to improve the forward ranks. Getting Schenn and Callahan give me a 2nd line finally. Maybe I missed the boat on Miller, but right now he's doing nothing for me and I have Horvat waiting in the wings, so it's a gamble I'm willing to take. Same sort of thing with Merrill, he's young and talented, but I seem to have a pretty strong D with Johnson, Carle, Martinez and Vatanen, so I dealt from a position of strength.

Thanks to the Flames for making my first deal relatively painless.
