This is sick. I'm pretty far from a bleeding heart liberal but there's no need for this violence. I'm glad their MP is smart enough to see this as not being reflective of all Canadians.

Also read about a women getting assaulted in Toronto and some verbal drive by assaults in Burnaby.
Sadly not surprising that we're seeing these incidents.

I'm sure like most of us, it's anecdotal, but I have yet to see casual racism and xenophobia being spouted by any non-whites on my Facebook recently.

My Philippian buddy, who immigrated here, has been posting "If you can't speak Canadian or you're unwilling to learn then stay out of Canada." I thought the situation was funny. I imagined a Pilipino sayin' "Get'r done!"

Statistically it's the most likely scenario.
That aside, he's right. This is exactly what terrorists are hoping for. If you turn the West against the Muslim community, it opens up the possibility of them turning against the West.

Just ridiculous. There's going to be a bunch of misguided stupid missiles all over the place committing hate crimes against innocent people all around now.
Have also seen a story on some stupid kid in a joker mask from QC up on the old FB newsfeed proclaiming he's going to kill one Muslim a day. This is the beginning of some really poor behavior from a lot of people drawing the race and religion card.

There is a website that tracks these things.
http://www.nccm.ca/map-of-anti-musli...across-canada/
The Peterborough arson really sucks though. It's a great town, but there are bad apples everywhere I suppose. Interesting that their MP is a Muslim woman that immigrated here from Afghanistan though.

I'm fairly certain real arsonists don't want to be associated with these people.
Some people are just an embarrassment.

That's the kind of logic that got into these hate crimes in the first place dude.

This so funny in it's hypocrisy.
The way I am reading this, [I am so ashamed of the way Canadians judge people based on the actions of a few outliers]
It's too bad this happened, it too bad that this type of thing was almost predictable, but this is obviously the actions of a few outliers. It would be nice to have an answer that could effectively de-escalate both sides of this problem, but it is really hard for a moderate built solution to change the minds of those on the extremes.

The good news:
The story states that the last time this happened (after 9/11) the local churches raises money to replace the damage.
This time, there is a crowdfunding campaign with nearly $50,000 raised.
It is heartwarming to see the community supporting people who are unfairly targeted.

Maybe. I'm mostly curious how the statistics got us into the hate crime situation.
