Looking to get CP's suggestions regarding my vehicle getting ransacked. I live in a quite neighbor hood (not that it matters these days) and my truck has been ransacked twice, and the wife's vehicle once as well as the neighbors vehicles in the past months.
I must have forgot to lock my doors last night (vehicle is usually always locked) and noticed all my stuff thrown around in my vehicle and my Oakleys missing and change that was in the console. I swear it's like who ever is doing this checks the vehicles every night. It can't be a coincidence that the 3 times we forgot to lock our vehicles they just happened to check them that night.
After the first time i installed a motion detector LED light above the driveway but obviously that didn't spook them away. I understand i need to stop being an idiot and make sure my doors are locked every single night, but i wanted to see if there are any suggestions to catch these thieves. I reported it to the police and not looking to spend hundreds of dollars setting up security cameras. I know they will be back so anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Hide in the trunk with a bat and when they open your car pop out and yell "Surprise Motherf***er" and beat the crap out of them?
That's what I'd do.
Lol I have honestly thought about it, (it's a truck though)

I've been looking at hidden spy cameras online but haven't found one with good reviews that's less than $300

If you have an old phone, you could leave a phone with a "find my phone" app.
Would work especially well if you could find an app or a way for your phone to email you an alert when someone tries to unlock your phone. I think they even have apps that take picture of the person unlocking the phone.

Honestly, if they bust your window and you have to pay to get that fixed - leaving your car unlocked but taking all the valuables out might be the way to go. Fixing a side window is quite expensive. (I think it was like $500 on my car)
Are security camera systems really all that expensive? I see multi-camera systems on sale at Costco for like $400. I'm sure they're not top of the line, but it'd probably work.

Then post their pictures everywhere you can think of. I deal with the same thing here in Fort Mac. I am relatively diligent in locking my doors, but it seems like every single time I forget my vehicle(s) get ransacked.

Bear trap, covered by a newspaper or something, with an iPad on top. Make sure the trap is chained to the frame. I'd suggest an alarm so you know if you caught him, but I imagine he'll be making enough noise to notify you.
Thieves suck.

Where is this? My friend has his car broken into in Aspen; they used in a bunch of other crimes and then abandoned it.
He says it's gotten pretty bad on the west side.
In the Millrise area sw
