Default 2015 Rugby World Cup thread

Any rugby union fans out there?

I thought I'd start this thread since the world cup is set to begin in just over a week in England (+ Cardiff).

Also--shamelessly--I'm trying to hock a pair of tickets to Canada v Ireland on 19 September in Cardiff in case any UK CPers see this or anyone else happens to be in the neighbourhood or wants to come over.

Not sure about Canada's chances since we've got half of the Six Nations in our group (IRL, FRA, ITA). Hopefully we can defeat Romania in our final match of the tourney at least.

The All Blacks have to be the favourite to repeat but otherwise I think it could be tough to call between England, Ireland, South Africa and Australia. France could surprise too although I think Wales will struggle following some key injuries.

Will anyone else be watching?

I'll likely catch a few games, at least the time difference will be a lot better this time.

Yeah, the New Zealand WC was brutal for actually seeing games.

This is the happiest time of the year for me.

I can't wait.

There is a Calgary connection on the team.

Two players and One Coach all from Calgary.

Nick Blevins, Graeme Moffat, Gordon McRorie (both players play for a local team, Calgary Hornets.

TSN is carrying all the games across their channels:

I think this really is the AB's to lose.

Sadly, I don't reckon Canada will win a game.

I'll be setting the pvr to tape a bunch of games. I miss not having more rugby to watch.

I was 2002-2004. I played 2 years of Hornets after 3 years of High School Rugby.

Its entirely possible, not that I remember that far back. Unless you were the guy who ate 50 chicken fingers before each game. I remember him. He bought them in bulk at Superstore or something.

Yeah I am heading over and am very excited! I am going to Ireland/Romania (just so I could go to Wembley and enjoy the Irish beating down the Romanians) and then France/Canada...just because it seemed like the Canadian thing to do.

I will also shamelessly post a pair of tickets to Canada v. Romania on Oct 6th. Pretty good seats in what I expect to be Canada's lone win at this event.

Canada has really backed their way in this year. I suppose technically they beat Georgia a couple weeks ago, but then got killed by Fiji in the final tune-up. The PNC was terrible for them with a pair of losses with less than 2 minutes remaining.

Regardless though, I'm super excited to go. I've never been to an event like this, and intend on trying to soak in as much of the RWC as possible while I'm there.

I'm really excited to see how crazy NZ will get for this - I predict a few late nights to catch the games at the pub. Unfortunately I'll be on holiday for the knockout rounds though so won't get to be part of the celebration if NZ repeats

I'm jumping across to Leeds for the Italy/Canada game on the 26th. Although I don't predict much of a showing from Canada. We have great seats, you never know and I love live rugby. Last Union game of any real importance I was at was a 2004 Bledisloe Cup match in Sydney.

Yay, a rugby thread! Time for an avatar change.

The Canadians have been struggling lately and will be in tough to win a game. Hopefully they get past Romania though and keep it close against the Italians.

The All Blacks should be the favourites but they seem to struggle in European World Cups. I'd say it is wide open between 5 teams: The southern powerhouses of NZ, SA and Aus, the 6 Nations champ Ireland, and the hosts.
