I thought his play was decent. Don't understand this move. Had some real push.

Believe the Flames might recall someone else
Wes Gilbertson @SUNGilbertson
#Flames have returned C Derek Grant to AHL Stockton. If he played tomorrow against NJ, would have needed to clear waivers to be reassigned.

That sucks I thought he played really well and definitely should have not only stayed up but stayed in the line-up.
His FO ability also gave the team some flexibility it could have used with Backlund struggling and their reluctance to have Bennett be a full time center.

Playing well huh, you're cut.
That seems to be the mentality with this team right now. Not benching guys who need to watch a game or two and sending down guys who play well.
Right now the coaching staff is mind bottling.

probably waiver related. He's played 9 games ... you have to clear waivers again once you play 10 or are up for 30 days.

Have to think this was to avoid losing him on waivers, which would have happened if he played on Tuesday.
Contract status trumping merit of play for sure.

Couple #Flames notes prior to practice. Jonas Hiller working with goalie coach Jordan Sigalet right now. Derek Grant returned to Stockton.

Oh good. We needed to sacrifice the solid 4th line C who can actually win faceoffs to resurrect the 3 headed goalie monster.

That's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off for them.

I think Derek has been one of the bright spots this year. He's been noticeably good in his limited ice time and has been outstanding winning draws. If this is Hiller related sending him down with the thought of the three headed monster coming back is pretty gross to me.... I think Ortio clears right now, he isn't playing, and the farm could use him.
Alternatively, based on the always earned never given, shouldn't Raymond be getting the boot based on his performance compared to Grants....
Having said that, getting upset over a 4th line center move in a season like this is pretty ridiculous. So it is what it is I guess.

Derek Grant has shown that he is good enough to stay up for the year so there should be no reason for him to be sent down.
And if he starts playing so poorly that Bollig and Raymond deserve to be in the line-up ahead of him then who cares if he gets claimed off waivers?

Damn, I really liked Grant and Looked forwarded to his 4th line shifts. Figured it was only a matter of time before him and Ferland scored a few.
I don't question a lot of the Flames moves but the there goalies and Raymond make zero sense. Pointless disruptions.

I don't get sending down Grant to activate Hiller. Grant has been really good on the face off dot and hustles a lot...he's probably made as many saves per game as Hiller too

My reaction was the same as everyone's until I actually read sureloss post.
Why would you play him 1 more game and then have him need to be waiver eligible. A faceoff guy like that is someone I can see a few teams taking a flyer on.

AGM Brad Pascall said Thursday Jonas Hiller is 7-10 days away from returning. Seeing him on the ice today fits that timeline. #Flames
