Flames Arizona NHL Hockey game question

I am planning to take my hockey nut son to his first Calgary Flames "road trip" game in Arizona on Nov. 27. Looking for suggestions/tips where to get good and affordable tickets for the game and transportation tips to and from the airport. Thank you!

Wait until the last day and buy a whole section on Stubhub?

Renting a car would be your best bet, I think. Are you staying for a couple of days? Phoenix is a fun city for kids - lots to do and see outside of the game, no matter how old your son is. It's a pretty easy city to get around with the ring road.

If I were you, I wouldn't stay anywhere near the rink. Glendale sucks. Scottsdale is nice, but maybe not for children. But it's safe so it's a good place.

I would also rent a car if I were you and drive from the airport to your hotel to the game. I took a cab from Scottsdale once to the game and I think it was like $80 or more. I've stayed near the airport a lot myself. There's not much to do there, but you'll save driving time if you skip out on Scottsdale altogether.

I went last year, arrived at the airport, rented a car then went out to Apache Junction where they have an old gold mine you can tour. Drove back to Glendale, had dinner checked out the entertainment district, went to the game (Flames lost. Boooo) and then drove to the airport for my next flight.
Total cost for the car for the day would've been under $30 (including filling up before returning).
Stub Hub is great for getting tickets.
