Default Was Ohio's Pot Vote Stolen?

http://www.alternet.org/drugs/was-oh...ter1045379&t=7

Quote:
televised screen shots taken Tuesday night of live election returns in Ohio provided by the Secretary of State's office showed hundreds of thousands of votes flipping from the "yes" to "no" column of Issue 3, the ballot measure to legalize marijuana.

When seen against the backdrop of Ohio's longstanding history of Republicans manipulating the vote count to obtain the outcome they seek, such as in the 2004 presidential election when Ohio returns elected George W. Bush to a second term, there are compelling reasons to question the official result where the pot measure went down to defeat.

...

According to the election night returns provided by Secretary of State Jon Husted, the people of Ohio defeated a November 3 proposition to legalize marijuana by a tally of nearly two-to-one.

....

Husted was not a neutral election administrator. He vehemently opposed the measure, threatened its proponents with legal action, and live TV results showed hundeds of thousands of votes moving from the yes to no column in a matter of minutes.

Tuning up the machines for the 2016 election?

Just confirms to me that our voting system, despite still being pencil and paper, is still the best.

That's some bad reporting. The yes no columns on all three issues flipped. It looks like yes/no was screwed up then the increases make sense.

What was the guys position on the other 3 ballot measures? Because either there was an honest mistake about the the columns or all 3 measures were rigg d.

Too add issue one which was a redistricting question was widely supported in polling. In the first image the no side is winning which it shouldn't be. So there is no indication of fraud in those pictures.

So instead of smearing Ohio the reporter could have done about 2 minutes of research.

Beyond that this bill was a group of investors trying to legislate themselves a monopoly of the marijuana market. The guys funding the prop would have been the 10 exclusive suppliers of marihuana in Ohio.

I am certain Husted 'muzzled' those that would otherwise have spoken the truth. Thank goodness for our intrepid reporter who shed light on this shameful travesty of the democratic process.

Interesting. Good find. I didn't delve into those images when reading the article the first time. Having said that, it still doesn't place a lot of faith into using machines for voting when glitches can happen.

Of note, it seems unorganized that the Yes/No No/Yes order on the first two issues are in the same order pattern on both ballots, but the pattern on the 3rd issue is the opposite of the first two issues in both cases.

It might not even been machine related. Could have just been the graphics guy flipping the input. But fully agree that a paper record is important. I think that Saskatoon got it right by using the scantron sheets.

All the benefits of fast counting and a paper record of the votes

I'd like to see an electronic vote machine but print out the result to be stuffed in a ballot box. This would allow for random audits, paper counting, allowing the voter to double check that their selection matched what was on the paper.

What is the problem we're trying to fix by going electronic?

What are paper ballots failing at?

Remember in the US they often have a large number of things to vote on at once. We have one

More difficult to rig an election with paper ballots.
