Default Calgarian killed by ISIS suicide bomber

Quote:
"I have heard from representatives from the YPG in Syria (the Kurdish forces also known as People's Protection Units) and in London, and it seems that John Robert was killed by a suicide bomber earlier today. I don't have many details at this time," the post says.

"He thought this was such an important fight, and he has always been a man of principle who believed very strongly in human rights and justice. I am very, very proud of him, and his sisters and I love him very much."

Gallagher previously served with the 2nd Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, according to a profile published in Maclean's magazine last summer in which he spoke about his decision to fight in Syria.

John Robert Gallagher, you're a f-in hero. Fighting the battles that most gov'ts are too meek to enter. RIP

edit: see this was just mentioned in ISIS thread, I think this local guy deserves a thread of his own.

No disrespect but it's a f'cn death wish to go fighting in the middle east. Can anyone even explain what the fight is over? seriously, even if Assad was ousted in the beginning would the country be civil today? doubtful.

The vast majority of the Western fighters that went to fight ISIS did so for the purpose of defending Kurdish positions. At one point there was a real danger of the Kurdish areas being overridden by ISIS, and that was stopped. If the Kurdish positions had been overridden many thousands of people would have died.

Yeah I saw that through some Facebook groups I am apart of. I would love to find it, I hope to head back at some point. I thought it was a re-dedication. Telling that the Croatian military is there, they were the ones that spent so much time trying to shoot/bomb us when we were there.

I believe that I drove that highway.

That part of the world, at that time, was a complete and utter #### hole.
