Default NEWS: Bacon and other processed meats cause cancer, claims WHO report

Sorry if this has already been posted.

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-st...-a6705176.html

A source told The Daily Mail that the announcements were expected to be made on Monday with processed meat put in the same category as cigarettes, alcohol and asbestos.
The NHS Choices website says that “evidence shows that there is probably a link between eating red and processed meat and the risk of bowel cancer”.

Death by bacon, it is!

I made my peace with the fact that everything causes cancer a long time ago, so I am all right with this news if it's true.

If you spend your life worrying about what does or doesn't cause cancer, that's all you'll ever do

Its as usual a pretty big leap by journalists over the science, sells papers or gets clicks as they say.

Time for good ole Ben Goldacre's excellent ted talks.

Everything that is fun or tastes good is bad for you. I'll gladly die from bacon and steak and/or hookers and blow.

I'd aim for all four at the same time.

Everything causes cancer.

There, now quit worrying about causes and find a ####ing cure so I can enjoy the causes.

It's the smoking process where they add nitrates or nitrites. I thought this link has been known for years.

The good news is these concerns are highly viewable with early detection

Since the report hasn't been released yet and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (authors of the report) state that no material from it has been released to any press agency yet it seems premature to jump to conclusions. The IARC reports are pretty solid, but they're not intended for the media or general public and without proper context are really easy to misinterpret. My expectation is that they will show a link with cancer, but only at very high consumption levels.
