Not many points but doing a lot of good things. Least of our concerns.

Tough start for Sam. Too bad he can't play in the AHL but he is going to stay here all year sending him to junior would be a bad move. Maybe some press box time for him similar to Stamkos rookie year.

I wish he was a little stronger on his skates. Seems to fall down quite a bit.
But besides that, this is a hard situation for a rookie to make an impact in.

Am I jumping the gun a bit in thinking he should be sent down to the AHL for now. Actually get to play Centre and work on that. Also develop a bit more physically? Kid will be good, but there's no rush to get him in.
*EDIT* Don't remember if he can even go to AHL now, or if it's NHL or OHL. If it is, keep him with the Flames. He'll come around.

I am concerned that silly, impatient fans are going to start turning on him soon too

Yes.
Only because he can't be sent down to the AHL, and sending him down to minors would be a huge mistake as he's already dominated there.

He should be playing centre, Hartley's mistake on that end. He's playing better than Backlund, Stajan, Jooris, Colborne, Granlund...but in an effort to get secondary scoring going, Hartley is sliding him to the wing and it isn't working either.
Right now, we only have 2 capable wingers - Frolek and Gaudreau. I almost feel like it's time to start using Johnny with Bennett, and give them softer zone starts and then keep Frolek with Monahan for the heavy lifting.
So far, I'd say Bennett is one of the few bright spots on the ice when it comes to work ethic, but the team as a whole can't generate offense.

Agree on trying Johnny with Bennett, it was magic in preseason last year..

Agreed. I'm not surprised what we've seen so far - my feeling is that a lot of fans expected too much from him - he's only 19!
Also I would say the same about Ferland - he will be good but again I think many expect so much from him. I didn't think he would pick up right were he left off from the Vancouver series.

I have been impressed with him and don't really see any concerns for him.
Most guys his age dont put up great offensive numbers early on so that area doesn't concern me and I think he has looked fine in other areas of the game as well. There is obviously room for improvement but that's fine for s 19 year old who missed most of last season. I would put him in the top half of forwards this season for the Flames.
I agree with the poster above I prefer to see him playing centre full time and if we have to move Backlund, Jooris, Granlu d to the wing where I think they all are better fits long term anyways.

Very young, flashes of awesomeness every game, team around him playing terribly... Not concerned one bit.

This and the fact that he has a slight build. Like RNH it's probably going to take him into his 20's before his body catches up to the rest of his game. Personally I think he's being a little rushed as he could probably do with a full season playing top line in the AHL.

I see Bennett as one of the only silver linings this year.
Great speed, plays with an edge, has his head up and finds teammates. He looks very much the guy that is one goal away from breaking out to be honest.
The team is broken, the team. So I'm not that worried about Monahan, or Giordano or Hamilton ... its not an individual thing at all. But if people want to play the individual game I'd put Bennett with Frolik as two of the most consistent performers so far.

He looks decent but this is a crap situation to be in for him. Too bad he couldn't go the A.

Bennett-Colborne-Frolik. That should be a static line for the year. And it will likely be. They were together near the end of the game last night.
Bennett found all of his success with Colborne in the playoffs. no reason to look elsewhere. adding Frolik to the mix makes it a formidable possession line once in the offensive zone.

Of all the things that concern me about the team so far, Sam Bennett is pretty far down the list.
