Default 2014/2015 PGA Tour and Champions Tour Thread

I'm putting the Champions Tour in this as well as I suspect Ames to tear it apart this year. Hopefully Spittle and Rutledge can make it through qualifying school again.

As for the PGA Tour early season, Bubba with some theatrics late in round 4 to force a playoff and win over Tim Clark at the HSBC World Championships. I didn't get to see it live, but i'd have loved to watch one of the Tour's longest players battle it out against one of the Tour's shortest hitters.

As for the regular Tour, Canadian PGA Tour rookie Nick Taylor is currently tied for the lead through 8 holes in the final round. He is currently 4 under through 8, notwithstanding he's tossed a bogey into that mix as well. David Hearn had cracked the top 10 with a dazzling 7 under through 14 today, but gave two back through 16.

Not sure if Nick Taylor will be on TV or not, but it could be the next Canadian PGA Tour winner.

I'm watching on US golf channel, and they are showing every one of his shots. He looks like he has a shot.

Hearn and Hadwin are having good starts to the year too. Looks like we should have more to cheer for in Canadian golf this year than we have for a while.

Unfortunate that Deleat is having problems with his neck and hasn't made it past the front 9 on the last 3 tournaments he attempted to play in.

With the leader in trouble, Nick Taylor has a kick in birdie putt on the par 3 12th to possibly take sole possession of the lead.

Taylor with a 2 stroke lead through 15. One group ahead of the 2 guys in 2nd and 3rd place.

Nick Taylor with a 3 shot lead with 3 to go. Would be the first Canadian winner since Ames in 2009 I believe.

Winner winner chicken dinner!

We have a new Canadian winner on Tour. Taylor shoots a 66 (including a 3 putt on 18) and leaves the field in the dust.

Pretty huge for Nick Taylor. To go from just barely getting his card by shooting a 63 on the last day of web.com finals, to now being exempt for 2 years, and getting entries into the players and pga.

A lot of potential in Canadian golf right now.

The only thing I am uncomfortable with is that the Canucks are all over Hadwin and Taylor. I think the FLames need to get official relations with De Laet and Ames so that international golf fans get proper exposure to credible hockey franchises.

Yes, good point.

Surely we can come up with some sort of support for three golfers.

They are in Mexico for the last tournament of the year. 5 Canadians in the field again with Hearn, Hadwin and Sloan all having solid first rounds. Fun to have 5 or 6 Canadians in the mix every week and should be a great year for Canadian golf in 2015. I am surprised the Canadian sports media isn't getting a little more on the bandwagon

I had the opportunity to watch the 3rd Round of the Charles Schwab Cup in Phoenix a couple weeks ago. The course was absolutely stunning. I believe they are there for the next three years. The crowds were very thin, much smaller than the Shaw Classic. It was very easy to move around and get a good viewing spot. Most of the time we watched the guys hit their approaches into the 15th hole, which was a par 5 with an island green.

in an interview I heard on the FAN, the president of the Champions Tour has said that the Shaw is already one of their top 3 tournaments (iirc).

Tomorrow is the final day for Champions Tour Q-School.

5 Canadians in the field, 3 with a shot at earning some type of status. Top 5 earn cards, next 12 earn conditional status I believe

Rod Spittle is currently T-4 at -3.
Jim Rutledge is T-12 and even part
Rick Gibson (Blast from the past name) is T-23 at +2
Ken Tarling is 51st at 9 over
Daryl James is 69th at 13 Over.

In Round 2 Rutledge had a good thing going, then tossed in 2 doubles and a triple on his card. Had he parred those holes, he'd be tied for 2nd. That's golf though.

www.pgatour.com, click Champions, then leaderboard to follow tomorrow.

Spittle is t-2 half way through the round.
Rutledge opens with a double but has it back to even for the day. He is currently t-14.
Gibson is up to T-18 but has some work to do in the last few holes.

My mistake from earlier, only the top 5 get cards, and the next 7 get conditional cards.

From pgatour.com

There will be no cut in the 72-hole qualifier. At the end of four rounds, the top-five finishers earn fully-exempt status through the re-order in the 2015 season, while the next seven players will be conditionally exempt. In addition, the top-30 finishers and ties will be eligible to compete for spots in open qualifiers at all co-sponsored events on the Champions Tour in 2015.

WHAT A DAY for Canadians at Q-School!

Spittle goes 2 under for the day and finishes solo 5th, gets his card. Things got rocky on the back nine with a bogey-birdie-bogey-birdie stretch, but he held on.

Rutledge starts with a double bogey, but goes 5 under on the back nine, birdies 4 of the last 5 including 16,17 and 18 and finishes T-6th. He gets conditional status. Clutch play. really hope he can transition that into the season. He always seems to play well in the final round.

Rick Gibson goes 4 under for the day, and goes Eagle-birdie-bogey-birdie-par on 14-18 and finishes T-10. He also gets conditional status. After a strong season on the European seniors tour, he uses his Final Stage Q-School exemption to play himself into a conditional card for the tour.

Both Rutledge and Gibson went 4 under and were among the best rounds of the day (only a three guys put in better rounds).

This means that the guys will be on the bubble a bit for their spots in some tourneys, however it also means that we will also see tourneys where we have 4 Canadians in the field (including Stephen Ames). That's unprecedented for Canadian golf to have 4 guys on the senior tour with some sort of status and not just qualifying on a tourney by tourney basis.

Neat week in Canadian golf.

3 Canadians on the regular tour

3 Canadians on the Champions Tour

and most interesting this week is the Web.com tour. Former Remax Long Drive Champ and Alberta's own Jamie Sadlowski is playing the Web.com tour event. He is currently 2 under through his first round. Tourney is in Mexico.
