$50 per month. I use the downtown one. Has squat racks, machines, open space to do insanity type stuff using the projector machine. I think they have a bunch of groups doing outings and outdoor stuff but i don't go during the day so not up on that. The downtown one is pretty empty after 8 and the heritage one is supposed to be empty during the day if you hate people.

Great gym. Love the small feel of the one in Evanston. Expensive yeah, but I very much appreciate being able to go to the gym at midnight.

Definitely fits your frugal profile. Their model is to "replace the gym in your basement"

Little expensive, but when I used to go I really liked the 24 hour aspect due to me working shift work. I set up a gym in my garage so i don't go anymore but I would recommend it.

I'm still using my anytime fitness membership from Oklahoma as you can use it everywhere. I just wish there were more of them in Calgary.

Expensive? It was one of the cheaper ones I found. My wife and I were paying $45/month each, which I didn't think was too bad. New equipment but a little squishy for the downtown one. They did include free underground parking in the hotel arts parkade, though.

They are opening one in Silverado, I was really hoping they'd be competitive with Fit4Less.

I kind of know the girl who works at Anytime Fitness at the Evanston one. I use to always see her working out during the mornings at the Beacon Hills Goodlife. I myself have never been in there as I workout at Good life and only pay about $24 a month.

I work out at the one downtown across from Husky. No complaints - I tend to work out at lunch (weights, not cardio) and rarely half to wait for equipment or showers. I pay ~$50 per month.
There are a few machines that they're missing (nothing for direct calf work), but there are other exercises that you can supplement for those.

I thought about this place, but just not a fan of commercial gyms personally. i prefer them old school body building gyms, no better feeling than out lifting someone on the gear.

What is the lowest price anyone has seen advertised for Anytime Fitness? I've seen that they will waive initiation and fob fees, but that's about it.

Cancelling the membership is such a huge pain in the ass. I only signed up for a one year contract, but once your contract expires, you will still get charged automatically. You will not be contacted to renew your membership, and in order to cancel, you will need to provide one of 1) a doctor's note stating why you cannot be doing any physical activity, or 2) proof of change of address. I was under the impression that these two conditions were only if you wanted to get out of an existing contract, but I had to provide proof of change of residence despite my contract having expired.
It took almost 2 months before the auto payment withdrawal's stopped.
I personally found the gym to be a bit small and it's only good if you were to go at odd hours, outside of peak times. otherwise it's pretty tough to get in a quick work out.
I prefer to have a no contract type gym membership. I hate being tied down to a contract.
|
So if your not planning on moving for a while but dont want to go to the gym any longer, you wont be able to leave the contract?

Haven't been to this place, but I seen their advertisement and it's cheap if that's what your mainly looking for:

If your looking for more squat racks (8-10 racks), try Strive Fitness which is in the same area.

I have a membership at one in Vancouver.
They're a franchise model, so it likely differs a lot from location to location. I would talk with the staff and owners and get a sense for the club you're looking into.
I really like my one and it's great that you can use any location when traveling. This is helpful for when I'm back in Calgary over the holidays etc.

I joined.
They had a deal where you got 25% off if you paid in full for a year. Worked out to around $45 a month.

Yeah, I had similar problems. No complaints about the gym, but a huge pain to cancel even though the contract had run out, and like you said 2 months of payments and phone calls to finally get them to stop. Crappy way to do business, as it makes me tell anyone considering them to stay far away.
